There was a lot of action this weekend below the Rio Grande and we kick off the proceedings with the return of former WBC Super Bantam Champion Oscar Larios, 62-6-1 (39), who rocked the house on Saturday with a seventh round KO of Nicaragua's Marlon Aguilar to retain the Interim WBC Featherweight crown at Auditorio Benito Juarez in the Guadalajara suburb of Zapopan, Mexico.
On the undercard, 18 year old welterweight Saul Alvarez, 20-1-1 (15), posted a unanimous decision over Argentine visitor Carlos Adan Jerez, 27-10-3 (14), for the WBA Fedecentro title although neither combatant made the welterweight limit at the weigh-in.
At Avenida Revolucion in Tijuana, local hero Julio Cesar Felix, 9-0 (3), stayed on track with a ten round unanimous decision against Nicaraguan flyweight Milton Marin, 5-3-1 (1), to win the WBC World Youth Minimumweight title.
Also on the bill, Ensenada slugger Oscar Gonzales, 5-0 (4), crushed more experienced Nicaraguan opponent Michael Isaac Carrera, 8-2-1 (4), in the second round with a well-timed body shot.
Across the Caribbean, hard punching Nicaraguan Juan "El Exterminador" Palacios, 24-2 (19), enjoyed better fortune than his countrymen had experienced in Mexico as he won his 13th consecutive bout by KO'ing local man Omar Soto, 13-3-1 (6), in the tenth round to cage the Interim WBC Minimumweight title at Auditorio Juan Pachin Vicens in Ponce, Puerto Rico.
Heading into Argentina, the drive of Daniel Alberto Dorrego, 23-1 (15), to face fellow countryman and top lightweight in South America, Aldo Rios, hit a snag as "Metralleta" was held to a second round no decision by crosstown southpaw rival Sergio Eduardo "El Tigre" Gonzalez, 22-11-4 (9), at Gimnasio Municipal in Buenos Aires.
