Ringside Boxing Report: Matthew Hatton Vs Lovemore N’Dou

By Jane Warburton November 16th, 2009 All Ringside Boxing

On Friday night at the Fenton Manor Sports Complex in Stoke on Trent, England, Hatton Promotions hosted a fightnight which would see Mathew Hatton face South African born Champion Lovemore N’Dou for the first defence of the IBO Welterweight Title which N’Dou won in July this year.

Bearing an impressive 59 fight record with 47 wins and 31 of those being by way of knockout – The Black Panther had faced a number of ‘quality’ opponents. This would be a big step-up for 'Magic' Hatton – a World Title win would propel him ‘out of the shadow’ of brother Ricky.

A packed Fenton Manor gave huge support to Mancunian Hatton but boo’d when Champion N’Dou entered the ring.

It was a close first round, with Hatton keeping busy but missing shots as N’Dou dips low. Both men start to settle in during the second round. N’Dou throws a decent swinging left to the cheek of Hatton – his punches are heavy, thudding blows.

Hatton sustains a cut to the left brow in the final minute of the round. N’Dou throws a right to the head of Hatton who counters with a good right hook (almost an uppercut) which lands on target. More...

It was a relaxed and friendly atmosphere in the smart new surroundings of the Hatton 'centre', where Hatton would weigh-in alongside N'Dou for the IBO welterweight title.

Hatton stepped up to the scales first - weighing in at 147 lb followed by N'Dou, who tipped the scales at 145 lb.

Both men were quiet as they posed for the usual 'face-off' photographs. More...

Boxing In Britain: Buckland Defeats Castle In Wales

By Ricky Jones July 25th, 2009 All Boxing Results

The top spot in the British lightweight rankings was up for grabs at the Leisure Centre in Newport, Wales last night and it was Gary Buckland who emerged the victor.

The Cardiff based "Dynamo" squared off with surging Salisbury hard man Henry Castle, who rode a six bout winning streak in the contest, and a thrilling ten rounds soon followed.

When the dust had settled, 23 year old Buckland pulled off a one point victory, 96-95, to add to his Celtic title winning effort in February against Scotland's Craig Docherty.

Buckland improves to 16-1 (5) and is now the official challenger for the British lightweight title while Castle's record now stands at 20-5 (11).

Also on the bill, 36 year old former British light middle title challenger Paul Samuels, 19-7-2 (11), came up short against 21 year old prospect Danny Butler, 18-1 (3), by a score of 98-94 for the vacant British Masters middleweight crown.

Butler will now face Darren McDermott for the English belt in September.

Hayemaker Boxing put on a great ‘all-action’ bill last night at the smart Echo Arena in Liverpool, England.

Billed as ‘Mersey Beatdown’ - the fight night was headlined by the vacant British Super Middleweight title clash between Liverpudlians Tony Quigley and Tony Dodson.

Dodson was scheduled to fight Brian Magee, who had to pull out with a back injury although he was ringside for the fight.

Quigley entered the ring to the sounds of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ as the Liverpool fans stood with arms held high - swaying and singing to the song made famous by Liverpool's own Gerry and the Pacemaker’. More...

Boxing In Wales: Jamie Arthur Wins Welsh Title Fight

By Ricky Jones July 13th, 2008 All Boxing Results

Last night at the Newport Centre in Newport, Wales, Jamie Arthur completed the first step of his comeback with a second round KO of Dai Davies to win the British Welsh Area Super Featherweight title in thrilling fashion.

A star of the 2002 Commonwealth Games, Arthur had fallen on hard times after suffering stoppage losses to Haider Ali and Harry Ramogoadi in 2005 and promptly sat out of the ring for nearly three years before returning this past April to outpoint inexperienced Ghanian, Ayittey Mettle, over six rounds.

The 28 year old from Cwmbran had vowed to lift Davies' Welsh title and once the bell rang for the contest last night at Newport Centre, he quickly went about doing exactly that.

Arthur just had too much speed, too much guile, too much height, and too much power as well, as he knocked out Davies at 1:31 of the second frame of their scheduled ten rounder. More...
