Boxing Result: Ranee Ganoy – Robbie Peden

Two years on from his brief reign as IBF Super Feather Champion, the mercurial Robbie Peden attempted to move back into the upper echelons of the sport, this time as a lightweight, but last night at the Sleeman Centre in Chandler, Australia, “The Bomber” was rubbed out by ruthless Filipino slugger Ranee Ganoy in the eighth round.

Based out of Sydney, Ganoy, 22-10-2 (19), had stopped four men on the bounce since suffering an early finish loss at the hands of current WBO Lightweight Champion Michael Katsidis in 2005 and was in no mood to let the far more experienced Peden have his way.

Peden had managed to keep pace with Ganoy for most of the bout but lacked the power to trouble his larger opponent, who had fought previously as high as welterweight.

In the seventh frame, it all began to fall apart for the big hearted former world champion as Ganoy’s bombs had their effect and Peden was floored before managing to beat the eight count.

But in the next round, Peden was clearly in deep waters and veteran referee Brad Vocale had seen enough, stopping the contest at 0:21 of the eighth.

With the win, Ganoy takes the vacant IBF Pan Pacific Lightweight title and improves to 22-10-2 (19) while Peden falls to 25-4 (14) and must go back to the drawing board if he is to again mount a serious campaign for another run at a world title.
