Rendall Munroe smashed his way back on to the boxing scene last night with a first round demolition of Hungarian - Laszlo Fekete, in front of a packed home-crowd.
Boxing Binman Rendall Munroe had retired from the sport in December, after defeat to Scott Quigg for the interim WBA World Super-Bantamweight Title.
But the former English, Commonwealth, European and WBA international champion continued to frequent Shinfield's Gym in Alfreton and it wasn’t long before he was training again. More...

In December, former Super Bantamweight Champion – Rendall Munroe, retired from boxing aged 32 with a record of 24 wins (10 by KO) 3 losses (1 by KO) and 1 draw.
The Leicester man – known as the ‘Boxing Bin-man’, had suffered a sixth-round defeat to Bury Boxer Scott Quigg when they faced each other for a second time in November for the interim WBA World Super Bantamweight Title.
That night, Munroe knew he would be retiring from the sport.
So, it was a surprise to hear recently that he would be fighting again on May 12th in Leicester. Moving up in weight – ‘TwoTone’ will be facing Youssef Al Hamidi in a Super-Featherweight Contest. More...

Gary Sykes (Dewsbury) v Gary Buckland (Cardiff, Wales)
BBBofC British Super-Featherweight Title
The much anticipated duel between Gary Sykes and Gary Buckland did not disappoint! It was a thrilling all-action contest with performances that both men should be proud of.
As the fight begins, Sykes almost stumbles back immediately at the start of the first as Buckland strikes first. The Welshman looked sharp and determined from the ‘off’ and catches Sykes with a left hook just inside the opening minute which sends a clear message – that he was ready and he meant business!
Sykes (for me – in my ringside photographers position) seemed to struggle at first to get in to a rhythm, but he does begin to settle in after a couple of rounds.
Buckland lands a great uppercut mid-way through the third which snaps Sykesy’s head back, but every round is non-stop action and the crowd are treated to an exciting fight. The punches were cringeworthy – looking far worse from my position live than when I watched back afterwards, and I was surprised how fresh both men still looked past the sixth round despite the action. Saturday night, at the MEN Arena, Manchester, Khan Promotions / Hatton Promotions and Golden Boy hosted a fight-night which featured three Title fights besides the main event.
Rendall ‘2Tone’ Munroe (aka The Boxing Binman’) from Leicester, faced Belarusian – Andrei Isaeu for the WBA International Super-Bantamweight Title.
Popular Munroe was fighting for the first time since his World Title Clash with Toshiaki Nishioka in Japan six months ago, when Munroe put in a gutsy and respectable performance against the Champion but missed out by a Unanimous Points Decision.
Munroe has recently signed with Hatton Promotions and was thrilled to get the chance to fight for another Title after the disappointment of Tokyo.
It was great to hear legendary Michael Buffer announce Munroe as the ‘Boxing Binman’! and as usual – ‘2Tone’ received a warm reception from the thousands packed in to the MEN Arena. More...

At the MEN Arena, Manchester, Saturday night - Amir Khan retained his WBA Light Welterweight Title by a Technical Unanimous Decision after Challenger - Paul McCloskey was (controversially) stopped with a cut to the left eyebrow.
It was a fantastic atmosphere inside the MEN Arena as the 18,000 fans eagerly awaited the main event.
Legendary Michael Buffer announced the boxers and as fighting got under way, little did we know that the fight would be remembered – not for the performance of either man or the excitement of a thrilling fight – but for the angry scenes following a premature end.
Khan came out fast and busy as round one began, while calm McCloskey – with gloves dropped low – kept centre of ring. Khan whipped out the long-reaching lefts and rights with lightening speed but McCloskey looks unfazed as he fends off the Champion. ‘Dudey’ lands a decent swinging right hook mid-way through the second round but is less busy than ‘King’ Khan – seemingly ‘waiting’.
Mid-way through the third McCloskey gets in with a right, but continues to ‘wait’ while Khan has moments of frenzied cluster punches (a bit cat-like I thought!)
Just before the closing bell of the third frame, Referee Luis Pabon calls both men together after Khan hits ‘back of head’. Luis Pabon though would be far more notable for other reasons tonight! More...

This afternoon, at the Town Hall, Manchester, England, media gathered for a Press Conference ahead of Saturday night’s ‘King Khan Returns’ Bill at the MEN Arena, Manchester, when Bolton’s - Amir Khan defends his WBA Light Welterweight Title to Paul McCloskey of Dungiven, Northern Ireland.
The press conference was hosted by promoters of the ‘Bill’, ie. Khan Promotions, Hatton Promotions and Golden Boy, however, it will be remembered largely for the straight-talking of Matchroom Sports’ - Eddie Hearn. There has been some confusion over the past two weeks as to which Television channel would show the event, it was originally to be broadcast live on Sky Box Office, then potentially Sky Sports 3 instead, but is now to be shown live on Primetime PPV in the UK.
Khan’s Challenger – McCloskey, is managed by Matchroom Sport and Mr. Hearn voiced his dissatisfaction today at what he called a ‘shambles’.
Thankfully, both Khan and McCloskey said that they kept out of boxing ‘politics’ and remained focussed on the fight. More...

Tuesday, Saddoboxing went along to Shinfield’s Gym in Somercotes, Derbyshire, to check in on European and Commonwealth Super-Bantamweight Champion - Rendall Munroe.
News came out last week that Munroe had switched promoters and is now under the wing of Hatton Promotions.
Munroe’s Manager – Mike Shinfield and Trainer – Jason Shinfield were keen for everyone to know that there has been no ‘fall-out’ with Mr. Maloney.
“We appreciate all he’s done for us and Rendall over the years” Jason began,
“We went out to Japan and Rendall fought well against Toshiaka – losing on points but the rounds were close, that proved what a Champion he is. After that, he took a well-earned break but once back in the gym he didn’t like the thought of going back down to fighting 8-rounders…it wasn’t an incentive. More...

Rendall Munroe and his team arrived back in U.K. last week after two weeks in Tokyo and are clearly happy to be home.
World Title Challenger - Munroe took WBC Super-Bantamweight Champion Toshiaki Nishioka the distance but despite a brave and gutsy performance - could not defeat him. Nishioka gave a classy performance to keep the Title for a fourth consecutive time.
Catching up with Team Munroe on Friday, trainer Jason Shinfield and his father – Manager Mike, were respectful of Nishioka and obviously immensely proud of Munroe.
They both reiterated the fact that training had gone well before the fight, they had been well accommodated for in Tokyo and their hosts had been very well organised. “It was straight into media stuff as soon as we got over there”, Jason Shinfield began, “but they are so organised it’s untrue. We were treated well. More...

Rendall Munroe put up a brave effort against Toshiaki Nishioka in a bid to win the World Super-Bantamweight Title, but sadly the Fairytale end we (the British) wanted to see – didn’t happen and ‘2Tone’ Munroe conceded a Unanimous Points win to the Champion.
Munroe entered the ring in his usual ‘fluorescent’ style of clothing and looked focused as the sounds of Bob Marley filled the venue. A smattering of hi-viz vests cheered their support to the ‘Boxing Binman’ and his team.
But this was Nishioka’s home-ground and didn’t we know it!
As they begin the first round – the chants of ‘Rendall Munroe, Rendall Munroe’ could be clearly heard from the British supporters, but for every punch that Nishioka threw – the Japanese crowd cheered. The Champion got straight to work with long-reaching shots, putting distance between them – fighting his style of fight, but Munroe takes position centre of ring and looks confident. More...
