Boxing In Britain: Burns, McAllister, Arthur Win In Scotland

By Ricky Jones June 20th, 2009 All Boxing Results

The action last night in the UK took place on two shows north of the border at Glasgow and Aberdeen.

At Glasgow's Bellahouston Sports Centre, Coatbridge stylist Ricky Burns retained his Commonwealth crown with a convincing victory over Belfast's Kevin O'Hara.

The 26 year old sharpshooter improved to 27-2 (7), by posting a 117-110, 116-111 and 115-113 UD over O'Hara, 16-5 (5), and retained the Commonwealth for the third time.

Former WBO super feather titlist Alex Arthur, 27-2 (20), was also on the bill, making the return from a title loss to Nicky Cook a good one by rubbing out Mohamed Benbiou, 15-15 (8), in the first round. More...

Boxing In Britain: Friday Night Results

By Ricky Jones March 28th, 2009 All Boxing Results

Two shows last night in the UK with the bigger bill taking place at the Bellahouston Sports Centre in Glasgow, Scotland.

Local hero Ricky Burns was in action as the Commonwealth Super Feather Champ put his title belt at risk against former British Champion Michael Gomez in what had turned into a grudge match complete with pre-fight scrums in the street during the media build up.

While Gomez was at his intimidating best before the fight, it was Burns who was in the driver's seat once the bell rang, peppering the Mancunian with sharp counters off the jab.

At 31 years of age and four years past his prime, Gomez was a shadow of his former self but still managed to test Burns as the Scotsman lost a point for holding in the fifth while attempting to nullify Gomez's inside aggression. More...

British Boxing: Brook Retains British Title In Glasgow

By Ricky Jones November 15th, 2008 All Boxing Results

Last night at the Kelvin Hall in Glasgow, Scotland, British Welterweight Champion Kell Brook retained his belt for the first time with a crushing first round stoppage over former titlist Kevin McIntyre and Commonwealth Super Feather kingpin Ricky Burns stopped challenger Yakubu Amidu in the seventh.

30 year old McIntyre had ridden a three bout win streak into the contest including a pair over fellow Scot Kevin Anderson but against the fast handed 22 year old Brook, the Paisley Postman had no answers.

Brook, 18-0 (11), gave the local man a lashing, knocking McIntyre, 26-6 (8), down three times before the bout was stopped before the first round had run it's course.

Coatsbridge southpaw Ricky Burns, 25-2 (6), won his tenth in a row by stopping Ghanaian slugger Yakubu Amidu, 16-2-1 (16), to keep the Commonwealth Super Feather crown.

Ex-British Welter Champ Michael Jennings, 34-1 (16), stayed busy with an eight round points verdict against Jason Rushton, 18-7 (3), while promising light heavy Kenny Anderson, 9-0 (7), stopped veteran Hastings Rasani, 20-38-2 (16), in four.
