Last night, Danny Williams made his first defence of the British Heavyweight title against John McDermott at a packed, and very warm, Goresbrook Leisure Centre in Dagenham, England.

In his words - promoter Frank Maloney brought us ‘517 lbs of Raw Power on a Collision Course’.

Williams, of Brixton, London, now aged 35, had his most notable win over Iron Mike Tyson - but ‘Big Bad John‘ of Hornden, is looking to take the British title.

The majority of support sounded to be from the John McDermott fans in attendance, with very few cheers for Williams. McDermott entered the ring first - wearing shiny blue shorts with matching hooded robe, alongside trainer CJ Hussein. More...

As well as the main bout between Danny Williams and John McDermott at Dagenham last night, there was also a full bill of undercard contests.

Featherweight Akaash ʽKash the Bashʼ Bhatia, 12-0 (3), of Harrow scored a third round stoppage over Somerset's John Vanemmenis, 1-4-1 (0), in a quick-paced fight.

Delivering a combination of shots which sent his opponent toppling unsteadily off balance, Bhatia notched up his twelfth win keeping his perfect record.

South African bantamweight Tshifhiwa Munyai lost his unbeaten record when he was defeated by Edmonton based Ghanaian southpaw Osumanu Akava, 11-4 (8), at featherweight. More...

Friday night at the Robin Park Arena in Wigan, England also saw an exciting and entertaining undercard.

Former IBO Champion Brian Magee of Belfast faced Simeon Cover of Worksop in a six round super middleweight contest. Cover, of the Ingle's stable, has the trademark ‘fencing style’, but after a steady start by both men, Cover went down on the canvas after a right to the body.

A big left punch from Magee in the opening seconds of round four sends Cover to the floor again. Getting up, Cover takes an onslaught from Magee and he almost ends up through the ropes. Seconds later, Cover falls back again and - shaking his head at his corner - is stopped by the referee.

Magee wins by TKO round four to improve to 31-3-1 (21) while Cover drops to 16-41-2 (4). More...

Newly crowned British Lightweight Champion John Murray could be making his first defence against Martin Gethin after Gethin waged a very exciting fight against Ingle Camp boxer Nadeem Siddique on the undercard of Murray vs. Lee Meager on Friday night at the Robin Park Arena in Wigan, England.

ʽGolden Boyʼ Siddique, is the taller switch-hitter training out of the Ingle's stable in Sheffield, while Gethin - a tough boxer - hails from Errol Johnsonsʼ gym in Wednesbury.

It proved to be an action-packed eight round lightweight contest between these two unbeaten fighters. More...

What a fantastic night of boxing last night at the Robin Park Arena in Wigan, England!

Hennessy Sports promoted the fight night, billed as Strictly Business, in which Mancunians and mates - John Murray and Lee Meager - slugged it out for the British Lightweight title in a thrilling action-packed contest.

But that wasn't the only action of the night; the undercard saw some exciting match-ups which made this a real cracker of a fight night for the crowd!

The atmosphere inside the Robin Park was electric as John Murray entered the ring alongside trainer Joe Gallagher to the sounds of Johnny B. Good. "Macho Man" Meager entered the ring alongside his trainer Robert McCracken to the sounds of No Where To Run To'. More...

Ringside Boxing Report: David Barnes vs. Barry Morrison

It was a noisy atmosphere last night at the Everton Park Sports Centre in Liverpool, England, where David Barnes made his first defence of the British Light Welterweight title against former champion Barry Morrison.

In a Matchroom Sports promoted fight night, Scot Barry Morrison was looking to ʽwin back the beltʼ.

ʽBarnesyʼ, fighting out of Bob Shannonʼs Gym, had a ʽnightmareʼ weigh-in on Thursday when he failed to make the weight initially, but there were no signs of problems when he came out for the first round. Looking ʽsnappyʼ - southpaw Barnes ʽwhipped-outʼ his long-reaching right punch to the face of Morrison.

ʽThe Businessʼ Morrison has the tighter-looking defence as he holds his gloves up high to practically cover his face - but Barnes still gets through. Barnes looking the more ʽpolishedʼ boxer against Morrison. More...

Ringside Boxing Report: Dean Francis vs. Tony Oakey

By James Oakley June 17th, 2008 All Ringside Boxing

Last Friday the 13th at the Mountbatten Center in Portsmouth, England produced a night of boxing that will be hard to beat anytime this year in terms of excitement.

Topping the Frank Maloney promoted bill for ʽFriday Fright Nightʼ was Tony ʽOakey Kokeyʼ of Portsmouth and Dean ʽDeanoʼ Francis from Basingstoke. The fight was billed by many as a ticket to a world title shot and with the British and Commonwealth titles at stake, that was no exaggeration.

The home fighter entered, wearing black and grey trunks to his favoured tune of 'Ohh the Oakey Kokeyʼ and with him was the FA Cup as his personal lucky mascot.

The crowd going wild gave him a huge reception and also their own version of the Oakey Kokey, which no doubt would fire him up even more.

His opponent, Dean Francis, entered also in black and grey trunks, looking much the more powerful of the two men, his physical condition certainly one of the finest specimens in boxing today.

The first round, if anything, was deceptive of the fight that was to follow. Neither fighter was particularly dominating, with Francis working behind the jab and Oakey trying to work his way in and go the man from Basingstokeʼs body.

In the second however, Oakey's high work rate and high pressure attacks seemed to already be getting to his man. Cutting and wobbling the Commonwealth Champion, Oakey took the round by a large margin. More...

Ringside Boxing Report: Sechew Powell Vs Deandre Latimore

By Jim Everett June 13th, 2008 All Ringside Boxing

Deandre Latimore “rocked the house” in an upset victory by scoring a seventh round technical knockout over Sechew Powell at the Hard Rock Café in Times Square, New York City on this week’s ESPN Wednesday Night Fights promoted in association with Warriors Boxing and Gotham Boxing.

Not that I want to get in the “too much information” category, but before the night of boxing began I was using the restroom and one of the St. Louis natives came in yelling “It’s gonna be an upset tonight, we didn’t come all the way from St. Louie to lose!” At this point I just smiled as I washed my hands and he continued, “You’re smilin’ but you wait and see its Latimore’s night!” I guess he knew what he was talking about.

The St. Louis native Latimore 19-1 (16) built up his record in just over two years, fighting seemingly lower level competition eleven times in 2006 and eight times in 2007, with the combined records of his opponents at 95-158-8.

From the opening bell it seemed Latimore was better than anticipated as he was able to trade with Powell from the beginning of the fight. Each fighter was able to land hard blows and made each round close. More...

Frank Maloney Promotions put on a competitive undercard to support the British Super Featherweight title fight between Andy Bell and Chirs Edwards on Friday night at the Metrodome in Barnsley, England.

Chief support came from a short lived encounter between Danny Reynolds of Leeds and Jason Rushton of Doncaster. Fighting for the Central Area Light Middleweight title - this was to be Reynoldsʼ first ten-rounder, however, it wasnʼt going to get past the first round! More...

It was a lively crowd that packed the Metrodome in Barnsley, England last night for the Frank Maloney promoted fight night billed as ‘Northern Rock !’

A full fight-card of eleven exciting contests was to be headlined by Stokes’ Chris Edwards making his first defence of the British Super Flyweight title against the younger Andy Bell of Doncaster.

Edwards won the ‘new’ belt from Jamie McDonnell in December and last night faced the taller Bell - who already held the English Super Flyweight title.

Andy ‘Ice-Man’ Bell looked ‘ice-cool’ as he made his entrance to the ring first, as the challenger. Edwards, flanked by the Impact Boxing Team and stable-mate Scott Lawton, entered the ring to the sounds of “I Predict A Riot!” More...
