Sometimes lightning does strike twice as WBO light flyweight champ Ivan Calderon had his rematch with Rodel Mayol at Coliseo Jose Miguel Agrelot in San Juan, Puerto Rico end early for the same reason as their first pairing in June: a head clash.
One again Calderon was cut badly after a difficult test against the Filipino hard man but this time instead of the technical draw in June, the Guaynabo southpaw came away with a technical decision, winning two scorecards 68-65 while Mayol was awarded the third by the same margin.
Could a third clash between these two be on offer? Calderon has now seen his last three contests end early for the same reason.
Calderon retains the WBO belt for the fifth time and keeps an undefeated career mark of 33-0-1 (6), while Mayol drops to 25-4-1 (19). More...

Newly crowned IBF junior lightweight champion, Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero (25-1-1, 17 KO's), had a smile on his face when he heard the news that undefeated WBO super featherweight champion, Roman "Rocky" Martinez (22-0-1, 13 KO's), is seeking a unification bout with him.
Guerrero, a three-time world champion in two weight classes, had this to say when asked if he would welcome a fight with Martinez, "Bring it. If Martinez gets past his next opponent, I would love to fight him." More...

Yesterday, at the Triangle Shopping Centre in Manchester, England, Frank Warren and Sports Network hosted the official weigh-in ahead of tonight's much anticipated clash between Amir Khan of Bolton, England, and Marco Antonio Barrera of Mexico as they fight for the vacant WBO Intercontinental and WBA International lightweight titles.
Well-known Promoter Don King, supplied the entertainment as he laughed and waved flags for the duration. 'Donning' a denim jacket embellished with his portrait and his slogan, 'Only In America - The Greatest Nation in the World', the fuzzy haired promoter looked to be enjoying the occasion as he stood on the podium awaiting the boxers and occasionally calling out 'Long Live Mexico'.
Looking to be a real 'people-man', King took time to speak to - and take photographs with - many of the general public waiting around the weigh-in area. More...

There was a smattering of action below the Rio Grande this weekend and we start off in Mexico where there was a battle for the IBF Minimumweight crown at Loreto in Baja California Sur last night.
Local man Raul Garcia, 25-0-1 (16), walked into the arena as reigning champion and after twelve rounds of combat with challenger Jose Luis Varela, 15-6 (7), of Colombia, still held the title, outpointing the former WBA Fedebol kingpin by wide margins in a rematch.
The two originally squared off in September with Garcia also winning that bout and "Rayito" has now retained the IBF belt on two occasions. Varela has lost his last three bouts, each in world title challenges.
Chief support on the bill was provided by San Antonio, Texas based lightweight Juan Castaneda, 15-1 (12), who dropped Los Mochis battler Abel Berrelleza, 19-10-2 (10), three times enroute to posting a first round KO.
Mexico City super feather Alejandro Sanabria, 19-0 (15), kept on track with a third round KO of 39 year old journeyman Jorge Romero, 8-40-1 (4), and David Gaspar, 8-0-1 (5), captured the vacant WBA Fedecaribe Super Flyweight belt with a majority decision against Francisco Reyes, 4-9-2 (3). More...
