Boxing In Australia: Mundine Stops Waters In Wollongong
By Bruce Dingo September 17th, 2010 All Boxing ResultsAnthony Mundine was back in action on Wednesday, stopping domestic rival Ryan Waters in the tenth round at the Entertainment Centre in Wollongong, New South Wales.
Mundine made his second appearance as a light middleweight, two years from from his second reign as WBA super middleweight champion and his edge in experience over Waters was evident from the first bell.
32 year old Waters had gone 19 bouts without a loss and previously held a gaggle of regional belts over the course of his six year career but was stepping up to world level for the first time.
Waters went right after Mundine from the first bell, hoping to tire the 35 year old but the taller, longer armed "Choc" simply maintained distance and picked off Waters on the way in with crisp counters.
By the middle rounds Mundine focused on the body of his adversary and was cut by a clash of heads, with Waters losing a point in the seventh for the same. More...
