Last night at Crowtree Leisure Centre in Sunderland, England, Frank Maloney hosted a fight night which would feature three title fights and one title eliminator.

The event - billed as ‘Fighting on Home Soil’ was headlined by Jamie Moore, Rendall Munroe and Danny Williams. There would also be a British Light Middleweight title eliminator between Sam Webb and Thomas McDonagh, and Tony Jeffries would fight in front of a home-crowd as he took on German boxer Roy Meissner.

With a total of eleven contests, last night would prove to be an exciting-all action evening - not least because it would provide the lead-up for Sky Sports viewers to the Manny Pacquiao vs. Ricky Hatton fight in Las Vegas.

It might not have been the MGM Grand - but the 1600 fans crammed into the Sunderland venue were looking forward to a great night of boxing - and they weren’t disappointed! More...

Friday night at the Newham Leisure Centre in the East End of London, England, Frank Maloney hosted a fight night headlined by Ian ‘Dappa’ Napa’s first defence of the European Bantamweight title against Algerian born Frenchman Malik Bouziane.

The taller Bouziane received good support from supporters who had travelled over to see him, but he looked serious as he waited in the ring for his opponent.

The champion entered the ring wearing trademark black shades, flanked by trainer Brian Lawrence and Napa’s two belts, the European and Lonsdale, held aloft.

Bouziane comes out and straight away throws the first punch. Keeping busy with the left jab - Bouziane looks sharp. Napa dips low to target the body of his French-Algerian opponent. More...

Ian ‘Dappa’ Napa had his toughest test yet last night when he challenged big-punching Belgian Carmelo Ballone for the European Bantamweight title at the famous York Hall, Bethnal Green, in the East End of London.

The likable Hackney lad entered the ring wearing his usual dark shades and with a female entourage holding his British title belt aloft. The ‘Belgian Butcher’ Ballone had plenty of support from his own fans who’d made the trip to London. Loud horns were blasting out around the York Hall as he stepped coolly into the ring.

Ballone, the taller of the two having a long-reaching southpaw stance, had the better start - with Napa adopting his usual tight, stiff, defence and being more cautious as he settles in. More...

Boxing Preview: Rendall Munroe vs. Salem Bouaita

By Andrew Wake May 2nd, 2008 All Boxing Previews

If prizes were handed out for being humble and keeping your feet on the ground, then Leicester ’s European Super Bantamweight Champion Rendall “Two Tone” Munroe would have a trophy cabinet larger than Manchester United’s.

Just eight weeks ago, the stylish southpaw outlclassed Kiko Martinez to take the hard hitting Spaniard’s prized EBU strap and he hasn’t allowed the success to go to his head. Every morning, come rain or shine, Munroe gets out of bed and goes to his day job as a bin man and the only treat he’s allowed himself since his career best victory is the purchase of a second hand motorbike.

“I'm a humble type of person," he told the BBC recently. "I keep myself to myself, and don't go around thinking I'm anything special.

“A lot of people say the binman is a down and out person's job, but I think more people are realising now that any job that you do can be just as respectable as the top job.”

This Friday evening, Munroe, 14-1 (6), returns to the scene of his title winning tilt when he takes on the tough Frenchman Salem Bouaita at the Harvey Hadden Leisure Centre in Nottingham, England.

The victory over Martinez in early March was seen as something of shock at the time. The Spanish puncher was undefeated, ranked number eight in the world by Ring Magazine, and was riding high after stopping the highly touted Irishman Bernard Dunne in 86 one sided seconds last August. More...
