On Friday night at the Velodrome in Manchester, England, Hatton Promotions hosted their first televised fight-night. Billed as ‘Euro Glory’, the fight-card was headlined by the European title clash between Matthew Macklin and Amin Asikainen.

Matthew Macklin (Birmingham) v Amin Asikainen (Finland)
12 x 3 Vacant European Middleweight Contest

It was a very ‘stiff’ Asikainen that came out to face Macklin. Macklin looks focussed - switching between head and body shots - before landing a huge left hook which lands bang-on the face of the Finnish man and he falls back heavily on the canvas in the first round.

Struggling to get up for the count - Asikainen looks unsteady but continues with the fight. Looking dazed - he tries to get away from Macklin but the Brummie goes after him! Seconds later, Asikainen is almost bundled over and it’s a no-knockdown. More...

Boxing In Europe: Saturday Night Results

By Hermann Helmut March 29th, 2009 All Boxing Results

Last night there were three good cards in Europe and we kick off this report at Mehrzweckhalle Grossziethen in Shoenefeld, Germany.

European Union Light Middleweight Champion Jimmy Colas, 26-5 (11), was dethroned in his first title defense by Lukas Konecny, 39-3 (19), via majority decision.

Haitian born Frenchman Colas saw a seven bout win streak evaporate as ex-WBO title challenger Konecny of the Czech Republic was the busier and more effective man over the 12 hard fought rounds.

One of the most decorated of all women's boxing champions, Natascha Ragosina, 20-0 (12), kept her WBC Female, WIBF and GBU Super Middleweight titles with a stoppage of Trinidadian southpaw Iva Weston, 12-5 (1), at 1:19 of the sixth round, bringing the one-sided affair to a close.

At the Leisure Centre in Altrincham, England, Matthew Hatton, 36-4-1 (14), won a IBO Welterweight title eliminator by stopping former European Light Welter titlist Ted Bami, 26-5 (13), in the sixth round. More...

The Everton Park Sports Centre in Liverpool, England also played host to a cracking undercard on Friday night in a Matchroom Sports promoted fight night which was headlined by British Light Welterweight Champion David Barnes’s unanimous points win over Scottish boxer and former titlist Barry Morrison.

The second main fight of the evening was the eight round light welterweight contest between former European Champion 'Dangerous' Ted Bami of Brixton, London, and Stuart Elwell of Darlaston, West Midlands.

A former Commando in the Royal Marines, Elwell got off to a great start against Bami. Managing to ‘smother’ Bami’s work on the inside - the West Midlands man looks focussed in the first couple of rounds but Bami settles in around the third frame delivering a couple of good body-shots. By Jane Warburton July 4th, 2008 All Boxing Previews

Yesterday at 'Touchbase' in the Premier Inn on Albert Dock in Liverpool, England, Matchroom Sports held the weigh-in for tonight's fightnight at the Everton Park Sports Centre, Liverpool. Headlining the 'bill' is David Barnes' defence of the British Light Welterweight title against former titleist, the Scotsman Barry Morrison.

But it was a nerve-racking time for Barnesy as he arrived late for the weigh-in and then scaled 14 ounces over the limit! Stripping off his underwear - Barnes took to the scales again to see how much he needed to lose. The second weight revealed an 11 ounce loss was needed and he had just one hour to shed the weight.

Morrison, who had weighed in 2 ounces under the target, was forced to wait it out for an hour. More...
