Spadafora Fights Past Frankel For NABF Light Welter Title

ByCorey Quincy 09/04/2013

Paul Spadafora has cooled down “Red Hot” Robert Frankel.

It wasn’t an easy fight; Frankel revolted against Spadafora’s amazing defensive game. He drilled forward with flurries that could only glance the gloves of the undefeated Light Welterweight contender.

But in the end, it was a decisive victory for Spadafora on the scorecards by margins of 99-91, 98-92 and 97-93. Frankel ended the bout with swelling around his cheeks and a big gash underneath his eye.

Spadafora is languishing for a title shot. After exceptional wins over Solomon Egberime, Humberto Toledo and Robert Frankel, he has earned himself a rightful position in the division’s top twenty.

The fight with Frankel saw Spadafora utilizing that sharp southpaw jab and gutting left cross that earned him the IBF Lightweight crown in the earlier part of the 2000’s.

Either way, it’s now definitive that Paul Spadafora’s comeback is no joke. He is a force to be reckoned with in the steaming hot Light Welterweight title picture. It is hoped he will be back on the national stage very soon against more stiff opposition.

In a four rounder prior to the main event, exceptionally rising heavyweight prospect Ed Latimore (2-0-0 2 KO’s) used his big right hand and hellacious body punching to finish Donnie Crawford (1-6-2 1 KO) in two strongly eventful rounds.

Fan favorite Middleweight Wilkens Santiago (8-0 1 KO) fired past the outgunned journeyman Mustaufa Johnson (9-16-1 2 KO’s) for an impressive six round decision victory. The scorecards read a one-sided 60-54, 59-54, 59-55 for the local Puerto Rican-American boxer.

Local Welterweight club sensation Billy Hutchinson (6-1-2 4 KO’s) continued his regional raise by withering Damon Antoine (11-45-2 5 KO’s) to a vicious fourth round finish. It’s a foregone conclusion we will see much more of this brilliant fighter.

Early in the bill boxing fans were introduced to another Heavyweight prospect by the name of Travis Clarke (3-0-0 2 KO’s), who bombarded away early to finish off the then-undefeated Martez Williamson (1-1-0 0 KO’s) in only the first stanza!

Opening up the bill Light Middleweight Joey Holt kept his record a flawless one with a fourth round knockout over the heavily formidable Austin Marcum (4-3-0 2 KO’s). It was a seesaw fight before Holt’s encouraged attack – he was clearly looking to seal up the victory and did so in dramatic fashion.

Overall, this was an immensely entertaining fight card from Chester, West Virginia. Props to Roy Jones Jr Presents and TNT promotions! Catch the full replay at GFL.tv!

Chris Billam Smith fighting for Zuffa for the first time this Saturday. I think he is being set up to face Jai Opetia later in the contract. Chris got easily beaten by Zurdo in a unification and we all kn […]

  • Where does Usyk go from here? 27/05/2026
For once, I’m totally on board with the WBC. WBC moves to shut down Usyk-Verhoeven rematch talk I personally have NO wish to see a rematch between Rico and Usyk. Call it defensiveness of our sport. Just like I thought Fury’s narrow escape against Ngannou was cringeworthy… I also feel a sense of dread that we came “this close” to having a kickboxer defeat the […]
