Last night at the York Hall in Bethnal Green, London, Hennessy Sports hosted a fight night headlined by Manchester boxer Craig 'The Hammer' Watson's defence of the Commonwealth Welterweight title against John O’Donnell of Shepherds Bush.

Watson hadn't fought since his impressive win over Mathew Hatton at the Manchester City Stadium 11 months ago and with a change of promoter - it would be interesting to see how he looked against O'Donnell, who boasted a 20 win and 1 loss record.

Watson looked confident as he waited to fight and as the bell rang to signal the first round, he almost runs across to O’Donnell - launching himself at his opponent as if he’d was ready to explode into action! More...

British Boxing: Watson Defends Commonwealth Tonight Against O’Donnell

By Ricky Jones April 11th, 2009 All Boxing Previews

Commonwealth Welter Champion Craig Watson puts his belt at risk for the second time as he meets challenger John O'Donnell at London's famed York Hall tonight.

Although Watson at 13-2 (4) doesn't have a record on paper to match the bigger numbers of O'Donnell at 20-1 (9), it is indeed the Manchester southpaw that has the greater experience.

As an amateur, Watson made waves by flooring future Olympic hero and professional sensation Amir Khan and the 26 year old was thrown in tough as a young pro, facing the likes of John Fewkes, Michael Lomax and Robert Lloyd Taylor by the time he'd been in his tenth contest.

Having only lost a close decision to Fewkes as a light welter, Watson went up to welter and shocked reigning Commonwealth king Ali Nuumbembe in a brutal and bloody battle in December, 2007 that was stopped in the ninth when Nuumbembe's cuts became too severe. More...

Boxing In Europe: Weekend Results

By Danny Wilson November 16th, 2008 All Boxing Results

The Continent saw a few good fight cards this weekend and we start off in Germany where at the Burg-Waechter Castello in Dusseldorf played host to a good card.

Standing six feet seven inches and weighing in at 256 pounds, 26 year old Ukrainian Dimitrenko has pounded his way through the lower ranks since turning professional seven years ago but the defeat of Krasniqi signals the entrance of the Hamburg resident onto the world stage.

There were three good eight round contests on the bill as well with heavyweight Denis Boystov, 23-0 (18), outpointing American visitor Vinny Maddalone, 31-5 (22), super middle Dimitri Sartison, 23-1 (15), stopped Edison Francisco Guedes, 11-8-1 (5), in the third while super middle Gusmyl Perdomo, 16-2 (10), stopped Laurent Goury, 14-18 (2), in the fourth.

The International Events Centre in Castlebar, Ireland saw former European Super Bantam Champ Bernard Dunne, 27-1 (14), take a technical decision after six rounds against Uruguay's former WBC Bantam title challenger Cristian Faccio, 16-4 (11). More...
