Boxing Result: IBF Champ Gamboa Crushes Solis In Atlantic City

By Richard Eberline March 27th, 2011 All Boxing Results

IBF featherweight king Yuriorkis Gamboa may have lost his WBA title on the scales before his fight last night at Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall but the former Olympic Gold Medallist from Cuba handed Mexican challenger Jorge Solis a complete and thorough defeat.

The first round featured only mild action as the pair of combatants studied each other but that period of calm was shattered by the second as Gamboa began to hammer the veteran Solis.

Solis hit the deck twice in the face of a blizzard of leather from the champion but beat the count each time before managing to see the round out on his feet.

Gamboa stalked Solis in the third, producing another knockdown but again, Solis was back up to continue. More...

NABA Super Bantamweight champion Teon 'The Technician' Kennedy of Philadelphia has remained unbeaten through seventeen professional bouts, and continues to acquire experience. Last Saturday he put game but outmatched Alex 'El Diablo' Becerra through the grinder at Bally's Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey, in a card by Russell Peltz Boxing Promotions.

Becerra refused to stand down, subjecting himself to a torturous beating. Kennedy put Becerra through ten sadistic and brutal rounds of living hell. Strangely, Becerra it seemed kept asking for it.

The Mexican Becerra, 20-9 (9), El Paso, Texas, and Kennedy, now 16-0-1 (6), both fought a feeling out jab cautious first round of fast tempo but of little consequence. Kennedy realized shortly thereafter he could use his height and reach advantage to keen effectiveness, and his limited opponent could be hit with leads and power shots whenever he tried to come inside to scrap and make a fight of it. As such, the bout was unpleasant to watch, and the Bally's crowd was mostly quiet. More...

In the main event of a seven bout card promoted by Peltz Boxing Promotions at Bally's Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City on Saturday night, Jose Angel Beranza waged a brutal twelve round toe-to-toe war with USBA Super Bantamweight Champion Teon Kennedy.

Kennedy emerged with his right eye swollen shut, his left eye nearly swollen shut, and a twelve round majority decision to retain his USBA title in “the fight of his life”.

Many spectators at ringside shouted “Robbery!” and told Beranza point blank in both English and Spanish that he won the bout. Among the sports writers at ringside it appeared that Kennedy had won the first six rounds. More...

Boxing In America: Taylor, Cintron, Grant, Martinez Victorious

By Richard Eberline November 16th, 2008 All Boxing Results

Good weekend in the states with former middleweight world champion Jermain Taylor making a comeback from a pair of Kelly Pavlik losses to outpoint ex-IBF titlist Jeff Lacy at super middle to headline a big show last night at Vanderbilt University Memorial Gymnasium in Memphis, TN.

Taylor, 28-2-1 (17), controlled the action early but Lacy came back in the middle rounds to press his claim. Taylor found a way to regain momentum until Lacy, 24-2 (17), stepped it up late in the bout but it was too little, too late as Taylor wins a wide points decision.

Former IBF Light Welter titlist Lovemore N'dou, 46-11-1 (31), stepped up to 147 pounds to meet former IBF Welter Champ Kermit Cintron, 30-2 (27), in that organization's title eliminator and made a good accounting of himself but didn't have the stamina to outwork his taller, younger opponent, who won a UD on points.

Also on the card in Memphis was heavyweight Chazz Witherspoon, 24-1 (16), who stopped Adam Richards, 21-2 (14), in the eighth and final round of a classic two-way slugfest and super middle Alan Green, 27-1 (19), won against aging ex-light middle world champ Carl Daniels, 50-16-1 (32), who was retired by his corner in the seventh.

Also on Saturday, the Seneca Niagara Casino in Niagara, NY was the site of the continuing comeback of former world heavyweight title challenger Michael Grant, 45-3 (33), who won the NABA crown with a wide points decision over 41 year old Paul Marinaccio, 24-4-3 (11). More...

Boxing In America: Friday Night Results

By Richard Eberline July 19th, 2008 All Boxing Results

There were a few good cards across America last night, with Cuban superstar in waiting, Yuriorkis Gamboa, winning his first fight at featherweight in thrilling fashion at Buffalo Bill's Star Arena in Primm, Nevada.

Former WBO Super Bantam title challenger Al Seeger, 27-4 (21), was put into the ring with Gamboa but the Savannah, Georgia man was immediately overcome by the quicksilver Cuban, who hammered Seeger out of contention at 2:30 of the very first round.

Gamboa, 11-0 (9), dropped down from super feather for the first time and looked sensational. The 26 year old has been a professional for only 14 months but looks certain to make a genuine impression on the world stage.

On the undercard, WBO Latino Light Middle titlist Richard Gutierrez, 24-2-1 (14), was held to a draw in a ten round non-title fight by tough Bahamanian journeyman, Jerome Ellis, 11-8-2 (10).

On a J. Russell Peltz show at the New Alhambra in Philadelphia, PA light heavyweight prospect Chuck Mussachio, 12-0-1 (5), outpointed Delaware's Richard Stewart, 14-6-2 (8), over eight rounds. More...
