He was well behind ... ( 3 weeks ago by Aurelian147)
He was well behind on the cards against Hearns before pulling out the win. Effectively the fight that made his legend, although again no rematch. His next defense was a far less lucrative bout with Bruce Finch.
His prime was effectively over after 33 fights, and he turned into a part-time fighter chasing legacy bouts as and when it suited. All in all a lucrative and impressive career, but closer analysis reveals unanswered questions and a career not fulfilled enough to warrant atg status.
what the fuck are ... ( 3 weeks ago by sweetassugar69)
what the fuck are you talking about ! he beat benitez quite comfortable by 4 rounds ! so hagler never has had a normal defence of his title caveman lee fulgencio obelmejias ! duran totally disapeared to panama after the fight and never surfaced till 1982 ! leonard had more superfights in 2 years against greats than hagler had in 6 years ! you are talking crazy !
hearns was a vey ... ( 3 weeks ago by sweetassugar69)
hearns was a vey good boxer so being behind to him is nothing to be ashamed of it was what he did to win the fight that is what makes a great fighter ! admit you ust don't like leonard and that is what clouds your judgement totally !
The Benitez fight ... ( 3 weeks ago by Aurelian147)
The Benitez fight was cagey and difficult to score. If Leonard was edging it it wasn't by much. A crappy stoppage too. Benitez chased him for years for a rematch, but Ray wasn't interested.
Point is that Leonard was taking these gimme fights against journeymen whilst turning down more lucrative rematches. Hagler was taking on the top ranked contenders.
I rate Leonard ... ( 3 weeks ago by Aurelian147)
I rate Leonard highly as a boxer. He's up there with the other Sugar Ray and Willie Pep in terms of pure talent. But his career still leaves a sour taste, and his legacy falls some way short of the above. Too much questionable officiating, lack of rematches after narrow or controversial wins, and too many hand picked contests.
have you actually ... ( 3 weeks ago by sweetassugar69)
have you actually seen the benitez fight because how can you think it was very close ! leonard knocked him down 2 and as i said was 4 rounds ahead ! how can you give someone a rematch when you are retired ! oh excuse me but are you taliking about hagler also with cave man lee wilfrid sypion and fulgencio obelmejias not 1 but 2 defences ! the reason why leonard is greater than hagler is because he proved himself in 3 different weight classes 2 more than hagler!
Pretty sure that ... ( 3 weeks ago by Aurelian147)
Pretty sure that Fully Obel and Scypion were highly ranked contenders when Hagler fought them, although Cavaman Lee was a payday.
How did Leonard 'prove himself' at 154 and 160? All he was doing at those weights was bauble hunting. One fight with Kalule then vacated. One fight with Hagler then vacated. The KDs were the only major difference between SRL and Benitez. I don't care what the scorecards said. The Benitez fight wa
s 79, SRL retired in 82, and he reneged on the rematch.
the judges ... ( 3 weeks ago by sweetassugar69)
the judges scorecards for the benitez fight were 137 to 130 137 to 133 136 to 134 not including the 15th when leonard knocked him down i don't think them scores say it was close fight do you ! you are like hagler you just cannot take being defeated ! your funny
I don't care what ... ( 3 weeks ago by Aurelian147)
I don't care what the judges' scorecards say. All too often the judges' scorecards can be horribly wrong. Despite winning virtually every round, Buster Douglas was only ahead on one card when he KO'd Tyson. Despite losing virtually every round, Ali won by a wide UD against Jimmy Young.
The Benitez fight I watched was very close and cagey, with the KDs the only major breaker. Add in the questionable stoppage and it was worthy of a rematch. Why do you think Ray chose to fight Green instead?
Hagler was robbed!!! ( 3 weeks ago by traductoritaliano)
Hagler was robbed!!!
you need to ... ( 3 weeks ago by sweetassugar69)
you need to understand you are 1 of the minority my friend ! almost everybody considers sugar ray the best boxer in the welter and light middle boxers inthe early 80 with his results ! the facts speak for themselves ! ! no more talking with you now i have outpointed you my friend !!
Who is "almost ... ( 3 weeks ago by Aurelian147)
Who is "almost everybody"? "Almost everybody" doesn't know a great deal about boxing. "Almost everybody" thinks Muhammad Ali is the greatest boxer who ever lived. Means nothing to me, I make my own judgements.
If you outpointed me then you did it Sugar Ray style - constantly running away, stealing a dubious decision and then retiring to avoid a rematch!
i'll never retire ... ( 3 weeks ago by sweetassugar69)
i'll never retire from you son to much skill abd to much know how ! just like sugar ray has over hagler and benitez ! but you have to read this page and see it just us 2 trading ! pretty sad now i think don't you ! go on retire now there no shame in losing to me on a majority decision ! maybe i will give you a rematch in a few years time ! lol
Yeah you'll give me ... ( 3 weeks ago by Aurelian147)
Yeah you'll give me a rematch when I'm old and shopworn after making sure all the judges have been paid off!

à Duran «no mas». Qui aurait pu en faire autant? Leonard, one of the greatest, and certainly the slickest!!!
no. hagler got his ... ( 2 weeks ago by LeonardHearns1981)
no. hagler got his ass beat and denies that he got his ass beat by a smaller middleweight. too bad srl made him quit a entire career. im glad ray moved up 3 weight classes to beat up hagler. this made me laugh in the 11th grade.

HAGLERS BIGGEST PROBLEM WAS PREJUDGING SOMEONE BECAUSE RAY LEONARDS FACE DOESNT LOOK HARD AND MEAN LIKE HAGLER THINKS HE HIMSELF LOOKS. THEREFORE haglers hurt toughguy ego was in denial that SRL blasted furious combinations all over his baldhead.
RAY WON. Sorry.

its called history making. something bernard hopkins is starting to realize he can not compare to.
No it's egotistical ... ( 2 weeks ago by Aurelian147)
No it's egotistical, carefully planned legacy-hunting. Baubles and wins against HOFers look good on paper, but closer analyis is needed to assess genuine greatness.

And your head is well and truly up yours if you believe all that stuff you wrote about Leonard!
Much like your hero, you had to make one final comeback despite numerous promised retirements, and have been quickly KO'd, Macho-style!
Leonard was too ... ( 19 hours ago by sirmodi)
Leonard was too quick for him made him look stupid
