Wright: “I’m Hungrier For This Fight.”

LAS VEGAS – Shane Mosley believes he just had an off night when ‘Winky’ Wright beat him in their first fight. He’s changed his diet, his trainer and his style to try to make up for it in the rematch. Wright says one thing won’t change – his hand will be held up after Saturday night’s 154-pound title fight. “You have off nights.

Everybody has off nights,” Wright said. “But there’s nothing Shane can do to beat me. He’s not stronger, he doesn’t have a big punch and he’s not as fast as I thought he was.” Wright dominated nearly all twelve rounds when they fought in March for the undisputed title. He kept Mosley on the outside with his right jab and didn’t let him land more than a punch or two when he got into range. Not surprisingly, Wright sees much of the same Saturday in a rematch he would rather not have, but one he’s confident of winning. “I’m not trying to make the fight any different. For me, the fight the first time was great,” Wright said. “He’ll try some new things, but that won’t help him win the fight.”

Wright (47-3, 25 knockouts) is a 2 1/2-1 favorite to retain his titles in the scheduled 12-round fight from the Mandalay Bay hotel-casino (9:45 p.m. EST, HBO). The winner probably will move on to lucrative fights with the likes of Oscar De La Hoya and Felix Trinidad. The loser will have to figure out a way to get in the big-money mix again. “I’m hungrier for this fight than I was for the first,” Wright said. “This fight will set me up for bigger things. The first fight just opened the door.” The fight closed some doors for Mosley, who exercised his right in the contract from the first fight for a rematch.
