I agree. I think Hagler won even though Leonard ran.
I can't believe ... ( 6 months ago by toonarmysport)
I can't believe anyone who thought that the fight was robbery. Leonard clearly won the fight, 8 rounds to 4. Hagler didn't get going until the 5th, and he was already four rounds down by then and after that the rounds were shared. The only round that Hagler started to get on top was in the ninth, but even then Leonards wonderful hand speed boxed Haglers ears off. You have to remember that Sugar Ray had only fought once in 3 years prior to the fight.

I scored the fight first 2 rds for Ray, 3rd RD Hagler, 4th Rd for Ray. So i had it 3-1 for Ray heading to the 5th. After that i thought it was all Marvin. Ray running like crazy with Marvin chasing him and landing the better punches. I scored the fight 7 rds to 5 for Hagler.

it depends on what your looking at,if it's agression hagler if speed and punches landed leonard and who the crowds routing for makes all the difference in the world .they were routing for the golden boy leonard hand speed and the fact that he made it to the finish line and was able to play those psych games and land that many punches was in their book enough
but if this was a ... ( 5 months ago by JAYFUNK47)
but if this was a street brawl hagler hands down .leonard has some endurance ,but he's not a brawler he's a chess player who plays head games .hes like a mini ali

115-114 hagler, n it sounds closer than it was. eighter way SRL didn't do enough to take d title. ur right d hearns rematch was a bigger robbery, n ray refused both of em rematches. 1.Hearns 2.Hagler 3.SRL 4.Duran.. ray got plain lucky d 1st n his ass whupped d 2nd.. d fact dat he ducked him like crazy proves who was d better fighter. hearns fought marvin without legs n his right hand, hearns 100% i can't se marvin beating him.. d Hitman #1 all d way
there is no ... ( 4 months ago by camoguitardude)
there is no question at all that Hagler SHOULD have won this fight. If you watch the fight and score it fairly, you come up with Hagler winning nearly every round.Leonard ran round the ring the entire fight and only threw tirades of punches that had no effect on MH whatsoever. What is trajic was that this was marvins last fight, and he was robbed of the legacy he deserved. His only other loss was to Willie Monroe in 1976.The boxing establishment were merely trying to discredit the champion.
Those who were ... ( 4 months ago by tranmere789)
Those who were thinking that Haggler'd have won the match vs. Leonard do know much about boxing. They are looking that sport in epylepsy condition.
camo - you are spot ... ( 3 months ago by lurcherdog13)
camo - you are spot on. I was a fan of Leonard pre - fight & hoped he would win but the rules are that if you hit the guy more than he hits you then you win...Hagler DEFINITELY hit Leonard more than he hit him (once he caught up with the chicken!!) It is well known that Leonard avoided Hagler when both were in their prime.....HAGLER did win this fight & those who 'encouraged' the judges scorecards never got the payday re-match they hoped for!
YAKI: Hearns better ... ( 3 months ago by lurcherdog13)
YAKI: Hearns better than Hagler???? LOL !!! What are you saying that Hearn went into the ring 'injured' to face a monster like Hagler...get real..he was in top condition & gave it best shot..only he was up against the greatest middle of all time & did not just get beat...he was SMASHED into complete oblivion..he never fancied a rematch did he???
I AGREE with ALL of ... ( 3 months ago by allfiveny)
I AGREE with ALL of you who feel that HAGLER WON. Sugar Ray was a great fighter, but Marvin Hagler was ONE OF THE GREATEST CHAMPIONS OF ALL TIME. He was robbed in this fight. Sugar Ray ran, held, and threw pity pat punches. When they were in their primes Marvin not only would have won but he may have knocked Ray out. For those who don't agree, STUDY BOTH of their tapes. Deep down Sugar Ray knows this. Marvin Hagler WAS THE TRUTH.
Sugar Gay lost this ... ( 3 months ago by sinjim50)
Sugar Gay lost this fight --what a bunch of crap, Leonard held on and ran away from Marvin all night !!
Actually no such ... ( 3 months ago by guitarbandit7498)
Actually no such rule exists. And if that were the case Leonard would have won by a landslide. A compubox count of the punches, effective or not, would show Leonard landing twice as much as Hagler on his handspeed alone. Leonard had Marvin so frustrated and pissed, Leonard won the fight round by round. If you count the rounds he won and score it fairly it's not a hard fight to call. The only judge to rule in Hagler's favor was Lou Fillipo and he was just pissed at Leonard for mocking Hagler.

eddieji - i couldn't agree more!! - the judges fell in love with leonard as they did with ali!! leonard - schoolboy face - fast fluffy pats! running like a rabbit!! - yet he got the decision!! the more i watch the fight
the sorrier i feel for Hagler!! a true gadiator!!
