Evans Ashira Promotes While Risum Boxing Prospects Fight

Former two-time WBA and WBO world title challenger Evans “The African Warrior” Ashira is not done with his own career yet, but on May 26 in Nairobi, Kenya, he will start a new chapter for the future: promoting!
Newly formed company Ashira Oure Promotions Inc. will kick off with a small show at the Pal Pal Gymnasium, featuring Risum Boxing’s Samson “The Hammer” Onyango, David Kiilu and James Kimori.

Also on the show will be Ashira’s younger brother Stanley Katibi, 9-3-1 (4), and Wandera Ouma, 4-0 (4), younger brother of former world champion Kassim Ouma.

Super middleweight Onyango, 10-1, (7), is stepping back in the ring after a lay-off due to countless cancellations of his planned rematch with Mohammed “Chicken” Orungi, and will be facing old foe Stephen Esonga over six rounds. Onyango scored a decision victory over Esonga in 2005.

David “Silent Danger” Kiilu, 25-8-2 (13), is returning after his close points loss to former European champion Cyril Thomas for the WBF super featherweight title in France last month (April 6), and will be looking to get back in the winners circle before aiming at another title opportunity in Europe. Kiilu’s dream fight is a rematch with Thomas, but unfortunately this seems unlikely. His opponent for May 26 is still to be confirmed.

Unbeaten welterweight prospect “Jesse” James Kimori, 4-0 (3), is also waiting for final confirmation on his opponent, while Katibi will face Tanzanian Mitsz Liston, and Ouma takes on Bob Harrison. Ashira plan to promote again in August or September, with himself headlining in a fight for the African middleweight title.
