Boxing In Thailand: Friday Night Results

Two good cards last night with some of the country’s best in action on a busy Friday night in Ratcha Anachak Thai.

We start off in the North-East city of Buriram where WBC Asian Boxing Council Super Feather king Thong Por Chokchai, 18-5-1 (11), made the first defense of his second title reign by stopping seasoned Japanese operator Nobuhisa Doi, 21-11-6 (7), in four frames.

Southpaw Chokchai was thrown into the deep end early in his career, going 6-4-1 (3) in his first three years before reeling off a 12-1 (8) mark ever since, suffering his only loss to former WBC Super Feather titlist Sirimongkol Singwancha in May of last year.

Also on the bill was big punching former WBC super bantam title challenger Napapol Kiatisakchokchai, 45-2-1 (39), who kept busy with a ten round points win over professional debutante Ewan Borne, 0-1 (0), of Indonesia.

29 year old ex-WBC International titlist Kiatisakchokchai is biding his time following his WBC title eliminator win over Saenghiran Lookbanyai last September but had to go back to the drawing board after his 21 fight win streak was brought to a halt with an eight round draw against Fillipino Jack Asis in November.

Sod Looknongyangtoy, 36-2 (15), posted his ninth straight win since a failed title bid in a rematch against WBO Super Bantam Champ Daniel Ponce de Leon in 2006 by retaining his WBO Asia Pacific 122 lb belt for the third time of his third reign with a twelve round unanimous decision over Indonesian slugger Yulio Moro, 14-5 (13).

In other action, southpaw PABA Light Fly boss Wisanu Pornobnum, 24-7-2 (7), won his seventh on the bounce with a six round non-title victory against Jack Amisa of Indonesia and the Thai’s continued their sweep over the southerners as super bantam prospect Sirichai Ekchumpol, 7-0 (3), won against Rivo Rengkung, 26-6-5 (9), after six.
