duran beat the biggest fish in the sea leanord when he is in top shape he is as good as there ever been, durans victories over leanord and barkley are the best to victories of the 80's
Leonard became a ... ( 1 year ago by NathanHotDogs)
Leonard became a big fish later when he beat Hearns. When Duran beat him he was on his second title defense and very inexperienced. His only defense to that point was Davey Boy Green. Thomas Hearns at 32 beat I think a more formidable fighter in Virgil Hill than Duran did in 1980 in Leonard.. Leonard was inexperienced. Big fish? Ray came back and beat him easily twice.
Duran's victory ... ( 1 year ago by NathanHotDogs)
Duran's victory over Ray was nullified by losing easily to Ray in 2 fights. He couldn't duplicate that over a better Ray.. And beating Iran Barkley was no big deal. The style was made for Duran. Duran couldn't beat Robbie Sims 3 years before that. And Duran was easily beaten by Benitez is 1982 and destroyed by Hearns in 1984 when Duran was a champion at the same division as Hearns.

durans victory over leanord will never go away its the best victory ever, son, but your just a hater, but because your wasting your time hating means roberto on your mind so he did something right
Duran lost to Ray ... ( 1 year ago by MyFavoriteBoxer)
Duran lost to Ray two times easily. That takes away from his win. In any other case with any other fighters it would. in this case Roberto gets special treatment. As someone else said, Duran lost to all the greats in the 80s. Greatest fighter ever? Where does it leave those guys who beat him then?
duran beat ray ... ( 1 year ago by moben7)
duran beat ray leanord those other guys couldnt, duran leanord 2 is a stupid fiasco if you had half a brain youd already know that, as far as duran losing to those other guys, ever heard of a prime, durans 1972 to 1980, not 1984 plus even past his prime when he needed a win he always got it
it would have been ... ( 1 year ago by MyFavoriteBoxer)
it would have been more significant if he beat Ray when Ray fought Hearns or Hagler. But he couldn't. Ray was inexperienced when he fought Duran the first time, and this is proven by how easily he beat Duran the next two times he fought him. He beat him easily. Duran lost to all the greats. Hagler, Benitez and Hearns, and boy did he lose to Tommy Hearns. Tommy outclassed him.
you say past his ... ( 1 year ago by MyFavoriteBoxer)
you say past his prime when he needed a win he got it? When? He beat guys like Moore or Barkley, but not Benitez and Hearns and Hagler. Duran is not as great as what people think. And guys like Benitez or Hearns completely outclassed him, but then Duran came back later and beat second class guys and people say he is so great for that. But he couldn't beat Tommy and Wilfred.
For all haters ... ( 10 months ago by ribelino1970)
For all haters Duran was the best fighter from all them ( Hagler,Leonard & Hearns) Why he beat Leonard when Leonard was at his best, he was a natural 137 Pounder when up in weight, Not like Hagler stick at 160 all his carrer -Hearns great puncher but not chin ( Iran Brakley beat his ass twice) Leonard well good until his leggs left him mean while Duran keep coming.
anyone can say ... ( 9 months ago by olddirtypelican)
anyone can say anything about anyone, duran lost to hearns, hearns to barkley, hagler to leonard, does that make them not great? no. duran started at 118 and fought hagler at 160, not only that, it was the first time hagler went 15 in 4 years. leonard came back after 3 years and beat hagler. duran beat a prime leonard, anyone who says leonard wasnt at hes best is kidding themself, he fought duran all wrong and came back with a perfect fight plan 5 months later :)
Ray Leonard still ... ( 6 months ago by 86pimp3)
Ray Leonard still got beat up on the inside against a 5'7 lightweight. He only won when he ran.
Durans a great, ... ( 5 months ago by markybh0y)
Durans a great, Hagler's a great, Hearns is a great and so is sugar ray and for all you duran haters out there, Duran is probably the greatest lightweight of all time, he thought and beat the best and the worst that division had to offer. held world titles at 4 different weights, had over 100 professional fights, in his prime had a record of 70odd-1, then moved up to welterweight and beat a prime sugar ray.

Obviously Duran's ... ( 2 months ago by mpolzkill)
Obviously Duran's very different from & not as great as Ray Robinson, but your ripping on Duran made me think of the comparison. Total domination in their twenties at their natural weights:
Robinson, aged 19 to 30, 135 lbs up to 160: 128-1-2 !
Duran, aged 17 to 29, 120 lbs up to 145:
72-1-0 !
Past prime, vs many greats:
RR, aged 30 to 37, 160 lbs average:
13-5-0
RD, aged 29 to 37, 145 lbs up to around 160:
13-6-0
Old men:
RR aged 37 to 44:
32-13-4
RD aged 37 to 50:
18-9-0

Duran was fighting @ lightweight in 78 @ 135 lbs @ 5 foot 7 reach of67 inchs and @ age 33 fought and pushed the best middleweight in history - marvin had a massive reach advantage , a two inch height advantage and a chin made of steel - its a credit to the smaller Duran that he pushed Marvin all the way .
Duran was a monster ... ( 1 month ago by nobbytang)
Duran was a monster @ lightweight making 14 title defences ( a record ) - only 5 foot 7 and a reach of 67 inchs and @ age 29 went up to welter jumping lightwelter - its a credit to him that within 3 years he was fighting up to full middle 160lbs against physically far bigger and younger fighters particularly when he was giving away reach and height - now imagine the 135 lb duran being scaled up to 160lbs , who would of won then ? = I love em all though leonard / hearns / hagler/ benitez

Styles make fights that there tells you how things in boxing are. Hagler put down Hearns because his boxing style, Duran could'nt because of his different style made it to easy for Hearns to land power shots. Duran did well against Hagler because he is more used to fighting inside like most Latin boxers are.
People can undermind Hagler for waiting for his competition in middle weight, I just don't see why he was comfortable there and a natural at that weight why kill yourself making weight.
