Adam Azim Faces Tough Steve Claggett Test At Wembley Arena On BOXXER Fight Night
Adam Azim is back under the Wembley Arena lights on Saturday night and, honestly, this feels like one of those fights where we learn a bit more about where he actually is in the division. The unbeaten Adam Azim takes on tough Canadian veteran Steve Claggett over 12 rounds in a super lightweight main event live on DAZN and BBC2, with BOXXER stacking the card with title fights and a handful of prospects looking to keep moving.
Claggett isn’t the kind of opponent you blow away without earning it either. He’s aggressive, throws plenty, and tends to drag fighters into uncomfortable rounds. Azim has looked sharp and spiteful lately, but this is the sort of matchup where patience matters just as much as speed.
Main Event: Adam Azim vs Steve Claggett
Azim comes in unbeaten at 14-0-0 and still carries that feeling that British boxing might have another genuine world-level talent on its hands. The speed is obvious, the timing is improving all the time, and he’s started sitting down on punches more instead of just dazzling people for the sake of it.
Still, Claggett at 40-8-2 is probably one of the more awkward names on his record so far. He’s experienced, physically strong, and has spent years making fights messy for younger men trying to look good. Some fighters hate dealing with opponents who refuse to take a backward step. Claggett is very much one of those.
The interesting part is whether Azim tries to make a statement or boxes smart. If he gets drawn into too many exchanges early, Claggett could turn this into a rough night. But if Azim controls range and picks the shots cleanly, you can see why so many people are already talking about him moving toward major title level sooner rather than later.
Co-Main / Key Fights
The co-feature could easily steal the show. Juergen Uldedaj (21-1-0) meets unbeaten American puncher Muhsin Cason (14-0-0) for the IBO World Cruiserweight title over 12 rounds.
There’s a bit of mystery around Cason because British fans haven’t seen loads of him, but unbeaten cruiserweights travelling across for a title fight usually aren’t coming for a sightseeing tour. Uldedaj has momentum and experience on his side, though. Expect this one to start cautiously before somebody decides to gamble.
Francesca Hennessy (8-0-0) continues her rise against Aurora De Persio (8-1-0) for the WBC Silver Bantamweight title. Hennessy has quickly become one of the more enjoyable young fighters on these British cards because she actually fights with intent instead of just banking rounds. De Persio’s record suggests she’s not arriving just to survive, so this could end up being a sharper contest than some expect.
The English welterweight title fight between Joel Kodua (11-0-0) and Will Harrison (8-0-2) has proper domestic-fight energy about it. No massive hype, no endless noise online, just two unbeaten-ish fighters trying to push themselves into the next tier. Those are often the fights that end up delivering.
Full Undercard
Ergal Elezaj (5-0-0) faces Dan Garber (12-7-0) in a six-round heavyweight bout that should give Elezaj room to let his hands go.
Abdul Khan (14-0-0) takes on durable journeyman Liam Fitzmaurice (0-15-0) over four rounds at featherweight.
Vijayraj Karia (6-0-0) meets Juan Alberto Batista (1-25-0) in a bantamweight four-rounder.
Saqib Mehmood (2-0-0) continues his early career against experienced survivor Simas Volosinas (7-128-0) at lightweight.
Heavyweights Derrick Osadolor (0-1-0) and Ryan Labourn (0-42-2) meet over four rounds.
Oscar McCracken (5-0-0) faces Steven Wallace (0-9-0) in another short welterweight contest.
Mohammad Bilal Ali (10-1-0) is also scheduled for action in a four-round super lightweight bout against a TBA opponent.
Closing Thoughts
It’s definitely Azim’s night, but the card underneath him is solid enough that it shouldn’t feel like a one-fight show. The main thing people will want to see is how Azim handles a seasoned pressure fighter who isn’t likely to crumble after a flashy combination or two. If he comes through impressively, the noise around him is only going to get louder.
