Irish middleweight prospect Andy Lee chalked up another decisive win on undercard of the Waldimir Klitschko vs. Ruslan Chagaev world heavyweight clash tonight in Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.
Lee shared the ring with the durable and strong Olegs Fedotovs from Lativia, who carried a record of 10-5 (6), before the fight.
Lee took charge of the contest from the opening bell, off loading crisp punches and troubling the Lativian with heavy blows in the first round.
Fedotov’s tactics were to draw the Kronk boxer into a brawl, often swinging wild hay-makers.
Lee remained composed and measured throughout the fight, using his long right lead to tame and keep his opponent at bay.
The Kronk star unleashed a stinging left hand to floor Fedotovs in the last round.
Lee demonstrated his boxing skills and maturity to comfortably coast to a points victory.
The Irish soutpaw commented after the fight, “I’m really delighted to win tonight, this was my 19th fight in my career and I see the victory as another building block in moving forward in my career and obtaining experience. It was a real honour to be on the undercard of a world heavyweight tTitle fight in a sold out 60,000 capacity venue here in Germany”.
This was Lee’s 2nd outing this year and he is very keen to get back into the ring over the summer months to further his goal of making his mark in the sport.
“I hope to get a fight in July or August in the States and keep myself busy, but tonight I am going to relish and enjoy the win and feeling of success”.
