Adam Azim Blasts Out Steve Claggett As BOXXER Wembley Card Delivers Fast Finishes
Adam Azim didn’t hang around.
The unbeaten super lightweight contender made a statement in front of his Wembley Arena fans, stopping tough Canadian veteran Steve Claggett inside three rounds to headline a BOXXER card packed with stoppages.
There were title wins, corners throwing in towels and body shots ending fights early. If you like knockouts, this one had plenty of them.
Main Event
Adam Azim moved to 15-0-0 with a third-round TKO victory over Steve Claggett, who drops to 40-9-2.
Claggett came into the fight promising the opportunity of a lifetime, but Azim’s speed and accuracy quickly became the story. A right hand sent the Canadian to the canvas in round two and from there the writing was on the wall.
The end arrived in round three when referee Victor Loughlin stepped in to halt the contest. It was another explosive finish from Azim and the kind of performance that will only increase calls for bigger fights.
Co-Main Event
Juergen Uldedaj successfully defended his IBO World Cruiserweight title, improving to 22-1-0 with a unanimous decision victory over late replacement Austine Nnamdi, who falls to 14-7-0.
Nnamdi deserves plenty of credit for the effort. Taking the fight at short notice, he absorbed some huge shots throughout the contest but refused to back down. Time and again he continued to march forward, looking dangerous and giving Uldedaj something to think about across all 12 rounds.
While Nnamdi’s toughness kept him in the fight, Uldedaj’s cleaner boxing and superior ring craft ultimately proved the difference. The champion controlled long spells of the action, picked his shots well and consistently beat the challenger to the punch.
After twelve competitive rounds, all three judges returned identical scorecards of 115-113 in favour of Uldedaj, who retains the IBO World Cruiserweight title by unanimous decision.
Other Title Fights
Francesca Hennessy continued her unbeaten run, improving to 9-0-0 after stopping Aurora De Persio in round six to claim the WBC Silver Bantamweight title. De Persio falls to 8-2-0. Hennessy has been building momentum for a while now and this was another strong step forward.
The English welterweight title remains with Joel Kodua, who improved to 12-0-0 after Will Harrison was retired after round eight. Harrison, now 8-1-2, suffered cuts over both eyes and was unable to continue, giving Kodua the RTD victory.
Non-Title Undercard
Ergal Elezaj moved to 6-0-0 with a fifth-round TKO victory over Dan Garber. Garber drops to 12-8-0 after suffering a cut over his left eye following a clash of heads.
Saqib Mehmood wasted absolutely no time, blasting out Simas Volosinas in the opening round. Volosinas was dropped by a body shot before the stoppage as Mehmood improved to 3-0-0.
Derrick Osadolor picked up his first professional win, moving to 1-1-0 with a second-round TKO over Ryan Labourn. Labourn was dropped in the opening round before his corner decided they had seen enough and threw in the towel.
Abdul Khan improved to 15-0-0 after stopping Liam Fitzmaurice in round two. Fitzmaurice hit the canvas three times before the fight was waved off.
Closing Thoughts
The headline belongs to Azim. Claggett was expected to ask questions, but the unbeaten star had all the answers and wrapped things up before the fight could settle into a rhythm. With another stoppage on the record and Wembley behind him, attention now turns to who BOXXER puts in front of him next.
