Chris Billam-Smith vs Ryan Rozicki Preview
Chris Billam-Smith is back in Bournemouth this weekend, and it is a proper cruiserweight night rather than a one-fight card. The hometown favourite meets Ryan Rozicki in the main event, with Jack Massey and Cheavon Clarke sitting underneath in a very watchable all-British cruiserweight clash.
Main Event
Chris Billam-Smith (21-2-0) faces Ryan Rozicki (21-1-1) at cruiserweight, and this feels like the sort of fight where Billam-Smith has to be disciplined early. Rozicki is not coming over to fiddle around on the outside. He is dangerous, heavy-handed, and if Billam-Smith gets dragged into trading for the sake of the crowd, it could get messy.
That said, Bournemouth has usually brought the best out of Billam-Smith. He knows how to manage big nights, he knows how to work through pressure, and he is much more seasoned at this level. The angle here is simple: if Billam-Smith boxes with his head switched on, he should be the cleaner man. If he lets Rozicki turn it into a scrap, the Canadian has a real puncher’s chance.
Co-Main / Key Fights
Jack Massey (23-3-0) meets Cheavon Clarke (11-2-0) in another cruiserweight fight with plenty on it. Massey has been around the harder roads and has mixed at a good level, while Clarke still has that sharp, dangerous look when he gets his rhythm going. It is a good bit of matchmaking, because neither man can really afford to drift.
Lee Cutler (15-2-0) takes on Aaron Sutton (19-2-0) at middleweight. Cutler has the home-country momentum, but Sutton’s record says he is not just there to fill a slot. This one could be tighter than people expect.
At heavyweight, Harvey Dykes (7-0-1) faces Ivan Dychko (15-1-0). Dychko brings the bigger-looking record and plenty of danger on paper, so Dykes has a proper test here rather than a gentle step along.
Undercard
Stephen McKenna (15-1-0) is in middleweight action against Casey James Streeter (15-3-2). McKenna will be expected to force the pace, but Streeter has enough experience to make him work for it.
Sam Hickey (4-0-0) meets Todd Tompkins (4-0-0) at middleweight. Two unbeaten records, early career stage, and the kind of fight where someone leaves with a first loss.
Leon Hughes (4-0-0) faces Mario Vergiev (8-4-0) at light heavyweight. Hughes is still building, while Vergiev has the extra ring experience.
Alex Macmillan (3-0-0) takes on Leo Fanthome (7-2-0) at welterweight. Macmillan is unbeaten, but Fanthome has been around more rounds and should not be treated like a soft touch.
Closing
Billam-Smith vs Rozicki is the name at the top, but the cruiserweight theme running through the card makes it interesting. If the main event catches fire, Bournemouth should be loud.
