Ryan Garner And Michael Magnesi Make Weight Ahead Of Southampton Showdown
The talking is nearly over. Ryan Garner and Michael Magnesi both comfortably made weight ahead of Saturday night’s vacant WBC interim super featherweight title fight at Southampton’s St Mary’s Stadium.
Garner tipped the scales at 129.10lbs, while Italy’s Magnesi came in at 129.3lbs, setting the stage for what is easily the biggest fight of the unbeaten Southampton man’s career so far.
The winner will move a significant step closer to a world title opportunity, adding extra importance to an already highly anticipated main event.
Garner has spoken throughout fight week about fulfilling a childhood dream by headlining at the home of Southampton FC, while Magnesi has remained confident that the home crowd won’t influence what happens once the bell rings.
Main Event Ready To Go
Ryan Garner looked relaxed and focused as he weighed 129.10lbs for the 12-round contest.
Across the stage, Michael Magnesi registered 129.3lbs and appeared equally comfortable ahead of his trip into hostile territory.
Both men came in comfortably under the super featherweight limit and produced an intense but respectful face-off afterwards.
For Garner, this is the sort of fight that can change a career. For Magnesi, it’s a chance to spoil the hometown celebration and put himself firmly back into the world title picture.
Edmondson And Arthur Dead Even
One of the standout fights on the undercard also had one of the closest weigh-ins.
Lewis Edmondson weighed 174.9lbs, with former world title challenger Lyndon Arthur coming in at 175lbs.
There is almost nothing between them on the scales and many fans see this as one of the most competitive matchups on the entire card.
Pauls And Goldsmith Set For Middleweight Clash
Brad Pauls hit 159.1lbs ahead of his 10-round middleweight contest with Bradley Goldsmith, who weighed 158.7lbs.
Both men looked in excellent shape and neither had any issues making the weight.
Bevan Continues His Rise
Unbeaten prospect Taylor Bevan weighed 169.3lbs for his meeting with Poland’s Ryszard Lewicki, who came in slightly heavier at 169.7lbs.
Bevan continues to build momentum and will be looking to add another win to his growing professional record.
Remaining Undercard Weights
Lasha Guruli weighed 141.12lbs for his junior-welterweight bout against Liam Dillon, who came in at 141.1lbs.
Heavyweight prospect Adam Olaniyan scaled 248.8lbs, while opponent Viktar Chvarkou weighed 215.8lbs.
In the junior lightweight division, Charlie Senior weighed 132.8lbs and Reuquen Facundo Arce came in at 133.9lbs.
Fight Night Awaits
All fighters successfully made weight and the card is now officially set.
The spotlight remains firmly on Garner and Magnesi, but there are several intriguing fights underneath the headline bout. With a hometown crowd expected in full voice at St Mary’s Stadium, Southampton is ready for a big night of boxing.
