Ashton Sylve Beats Joseph Diaz In Long Beach Results
Ashton Sylve handled business in the main event in Long Beach, taking a unanimous decision over Joseph Diaz on a DAZN card that had a few clean prospect wins and a title stoppage.
The event was staged under the California State Athletic Commission, promoted by Steve Bash of Bash Boxing and Mams Taylor of Misfits Boxing, with matchmaking by Steve Bash and Sam Walmsley of MF Pro.
Main Event: Ashton Sylve Decisions Joseph Diaz
Ashton Sylve (13-1-0 -> 13-1-0) picked up the biggest name win of his career, outpointing Joseph Diaz (34-9-1 -> 34-9-1) over 10 rounds at super lightweight.
The judges had it 97-93, 98-92 and 97-93, all for Sylve. That feels about right from the numbers: not a shutout, but clear enough that there should not be much arguing about the winner.
Diaz is still a proper veteran name, so this was a useful test for Sylve. He did what he needed to do, stayed in control on the cards, and came away with a unanimous decision win after 10 rounds.
Co-Main / Key Fights
Devin Cushing (18-0-0 -> 18-0-0) came through a good unbeaten-vs-unbeaten fight, outpointing J’Hon Ingram (9-0-0 -> 9-0-0) by unanimous decision over 10 rounds at lightweight.
All three judges scored it 97-93 for Cushing, with cards of Jerry Cantu 93-97, Jack Reiss 93-97 and Fernando Villarreal 93-97. That is a tidy win on paper and the kind of result that should move Cushing forward.
Ernesto Mercado (18-0-0 -> 18-0-0) made a statement, stopping Juan Carlos Burgos (36-8-3 -> 36-8-3) in round 2 of their WBO International super lightweight title fight.
Burgos was down twice before the finish came at 2:40 of the second round. No messing around there from Mercado.
Amir Anderson (7-0-0 -> 7-0-0) boxed to a wide unanimous decision over Jonas Sylvain (9-0-1 -> 9-0-1) in their vacant WBC USA Silver middleweight title fight.
The scorecards were 100-90 across the board from Jerry Cantu, Jack Reiss and Fernando Villarreal. No surprise result, but that is still a very clean 10-round job from Anderson.
Undercard
David Lopez (8-0-0 -> 8-0-0) got rid of Joey Borrero (12-2-0 -> 12-2-0) in round 1 of their welterweight bout. Borrero was down in the opening round and the finish came at 1:41.
Kayla Gomez (debut -> debut) won her professional debut by unanimous decision over Shayntain Creer (debut -> debut) at super flyweight. All three judges scored it 40-36 after 4 rounds.
Final Word
Sylve got the headline win over Diaz, Mercado did the eye-catching damage, and Cushing came through a useful unbeaten test. Not a bad night at all, even if the BoxRec pack needed a bit of untangling.
