Boxing Quotes: Delvin Rodriguez vs. Isaac Hlatshwayo

ByBoxing Press 28/07/2009

On August 1st, Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing brings world championship boxing back to the Mohegan Sun Resort and Casino in Uncasville, CT when Star Boxing’s Delvin Rodriguez (24-2-2, 14KO) takes on Isaac Hlatshwayo (28-1-1, 10KO) for the vacant IBF Welterweight championship of the world.

The bout between Rodriguez (IBF #2) and Hlatswhayo (IBF #3) will be a rematch of their highly entertaining draw that took place back in November of 2008.

Before the two will step into the ring they participated in a teleconference and shared their thoughts on the upcoming fight. Below are some quotes from Delvin and Isaac and their camps, as well as from some of the fighters participating on the undercard.

Delvin Rodriguez: I can not wait to get into the ring come August 1st. We have been training hard for this for the past eight weeks. This is an absolute dream come true to me, to not only be fighting for the championship of the world, but to do it in front of my hometown fans.

I am not going to leave any doubt this time who is the winner. I will be walking out of the ring August 1st as the new IBF Welterweight champion of the world, I promise you.

Isaac Hlatshwayo: I am physically and mentally 100 percent ready to go. Come August 1st I am prepared to do what I do best, and that is to fight and to win. The last fight is water under the bridge, I can not change the outcome of that fight, but I can assure you that I am going to bring the IBF belt back with me to South Africa.

Winning the belt is going to open a lot of doors for me. I want to fight the best fighters in the world, but first I must take care of Delvin Saturday and that’s what I am coming to the states to do.

Joe DeGuardia: This Saturday is going to be a great night of boxing. From the star-studded undercard, to the main event for the IBF Welterweight Championship of the World, it’s going to be an all around fantastic show at the Mohegan Sun Resort and Casino in Uncasville, CT that you are not going to want to miss.

Stan Hoffman (Rodriguez’s Manager): Delvin is more ready than ever. He has had the best training camp of his life and it will show come this Saturday. There has been a lot of talking leading up to this fight, but as we all known in boxing, talking doesn’t matter. What you do in that ring is what matters, and we are very confident that Delvin will be the victor come fight night.

Nick Durant (Hlatshwayo’s Manager/Trainer): We are coming to the states on strict business. We have prepared for this fight harder than we ever had before. We have been in the gym since January so trust me when I tell you Isaac will be in tremendous shape.

We have studied Delvin intensely since the first fight. We know we are going into his backyard, but we aren’t coming all the way here for nothing, we are coming here to win. The fans and the media are going to be in for one hell of a fight come this Saturday.

Raymond “Tito” Serrano: This will be my third time fighting at the Mohegan Sun and I am looking forward to putting on another great performance for all my fans and for all those in attendance this Saturday. This fight will be another good learning experience for me, because I am fighting a pretty experienced guy. I feel that after this year I will be ready to really start fighting some of the top guys in the welterweight division.

Maureen Shea: I am very excited to be fighting on this world championship card this Saturday. This will be my first time fighting at the Mohegan Sun and I am really looking forward to it. I will be having fans coming from all over the tri-state area. This fight is special for me, being that I am from the Bronx, and the show is being promoted by Joe DeGuardia who is a Bronx based promoter. I am really looking to put on a great performance and just hope that everyone can make it out to the show.
