TKO Boxing Promotions has signed flyweight contender Rayonta Whitfield, it was announced today by Chet Koerner, their President.
The 28 year Whitfield carries a record of record of 22-1-0 with eleven knockouts. The Augusta, Georgia native is currently world ranked #7 by the IBF and #8 by the WBO.
Said Koerner, “We’re thrilled to add Rayonta to our growing team of outstanding prospects and contenders. He has all the skills to become a world champion and we look forward to making his dream happen.”
Whitfield was undefeated prior to facing WBO Flyweight Champion Omar Narvaez on February 7, 2009 in Chubut, Argentina, Narvaez’s hometown. After nine evenly fought rounds, the fight was stopped prematurely in the 10th and awarded to Narvaez although Whitfield appeared unhurt and able to continue.
Whitfield is guided by award winning manager Cameron Dunkin who also counts world champions Kelly Pavlik, Nonito Donaire and Steven Luevano amongst his stable of fighters. He is trained by Ronnie Shields and Tom Moraetes.
Said Dunkin, “Rayonta was a great amateur and is a very popular fighter in Augusta, Georgia. He’s passed just about every test as a professional and we’re looking to get him another world title shot in the very near future.”
Whitfield will have his first fight under the TKO Boxing Promotions banner at the Arena Theatre in Houston on October 10th. In early 2010, TKO will promote Whitfield in his hometown of Augusta, Georgia.
