Dina Thorslund Dominates Cherneka Johnson To Take Bantamweight World Titles

Dina Thorslund left very little open to debate in Orlando, handing Cherneka Johnson her third professional defeat with a shutout unanimous decision.

All three judges gave Thorslund every round, and she wasn’t the only fighter to produce a clean sweep on the scorecards. Tamm Thibeault did exactly the same to Desley Robinson in the co-main event, while unbeaten heavyweight Dainier Pero supplied one of the night’s more emphatic finishes.

Main Event: Dina Thorslund Beats Cherneka Johnson

Dina Thorslund (25-0-0) took the IBF, WBC and WBO bantamweight world titles after outpointing Cherneka Johnson (19-3-0) by unanimous decision.

This wasn’t one of those decisions where everyone waits nervously for the cards. Judges Perla Rodriguez, Robin Taylor and Michelle Walker Serrano all scored it 100-90 for Thorslund. A complete sweep.

Johnson had entered with the belts, but the unbeaten Dane took them away in emphatic fashion. Whatever argument there might have been beforehand over who was the leading bantamweight, three identical 100-90 cards make a fairly forceful answer.

Thorslund moves to 25-0-0 and walks away with the IBF, WBC and WBO world championships, while Johnson drops to 19-3-0.

Co-Main Event: Tamm Thibeault Sweeps Desley Robinson

Tamm Thibeault (5-0-0) made a statement in only her fifth professional outing, taking the IBF and WBO middleweight world titles from Desley Robinson (12-4-0) by unanimous decision.

Again, there wasn’t much suspense when the scores were read. Dave De Jonge, Lisa Giampa and Efrain Lebron all returned 100-90 cards for Thibeault.

Five professional fights and already a two-belt world champion. That’s some pace. Robinson couldn’t take a round on any of the three official cards as Thibeault kept her unbeaten record intact.

Key Fight: Dainier Pero Stops Aleem Whitfield

Dainier Pero (14-0-0) didn’t need the judges. The unbeaten heavyweight stopped Aleem Whitfield (10-2-0) by TKO in the third round, with referee Michael DeJesus calling it at 2:20.

That was a useful result for Pero. Whitfield came in with only one defeat on his record, but Pero handled business inside three rounds and moves on at 14-0-0.

Undercard Results

Amanda Galle (13-1-1) picked up a unanimous decision over Shurretta Metcalf (15-6-1). The fight went the scheduled distance, with Galle getting the decision on the judges’ scorecards.

Jan Paul Rivera-Pizarro (16-0-0) kept his unbeaten record intact with an eight-round unanimous decision over Ruben Garcia Hernandez (25-8-2). The scores were 79-73, 79-73 and 80-72.

Krystal Rosado (10-1-0) outpointed Alondra Yamile Hernandez Mendoza (11-3-0) by unanimous decision. Rosado took the verdict after the bout went its scheduled distance.

Sebastian Juarez (12-0-0) remained unbeaten with a six-round unanimous decision against Rance Ward (9-7-1). All three judges scored it 60-54, giving Juarez every round.

Sa’Rai Brown-El (2-0-0) moved to 2-0-0 by unanimous decision over previously unbeaten Sheyla Moreno Castillo (5-1-1). The cards read 60-53, 58-55 and 59-54. Moreno Castillo was also deducted a point for leading with the head in round five.

Angelo Hernandez (2-0-0) went four rounds with Jose Fernandez (2-2-0) and came away with a unanimous decision. Hernandez got the nod by scores of 40-36, 39-37 and 39-37.

Jadden Addison (3-0-0) produced the quickest finish of the card, stopping Dionne Ruvalcaba (2-3-0) by TKO at 2:27 of the opening round. Short night, job done, and Addison remains unbeaten.

Thorslund Leaves Orlando On Top

The big story belongs to Thorslund. Beating Johnson was one thing; doing it 100-90 across all three cards was another. Thibeault’s equally emphatic title-winning decision and Pero’s third-round stoppage gave the card two more results worth remembering.
