Star Boxing: Andrade Promises Spectacular Showing

ByBoxing Press 03/09/2009

On Friday September 4th, Providence, Rhode Island’s newest favorite son, the 2007 amateur world champion, and 2008 U.S. Olympian, Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade (6-0, 5KO) will look to put on yet another spectacular showing.

He’ll get that chance in front of his hometown fans when he takes on fellow unbeaten John Williams (3-0-1, 2KO) in the co-feature bout of the evening at the beautiful Twin River Event Center, in Lincoln, Rhode Island. The bout is scheduled for six rounds in the jr. middleweight division.

For the 21-year-old Andrade, who is co-promoted by Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing and Banner Promotions, it will mark the second time in his professional career he will be fighting in his home state of Rhode Island at the Twin River Event Center.

Andrade last fought there in November of last year, scoring a sensational fourth round TKO over Eric Marriott.

Andrade has been on a tear since turning pro in October of last year. Already an international star as an amateur, Andrade has continued to impress on the national stage as a professional.

Since turning pro Andrade has gained national T.V. exposure fighting on the Versus network, SNY’s and three times on ESPN2’s “Friday Night Fights”. His performance against Arnulfo Javier Romero on March 20th (KO2) was was even chosen as one of the 2009 Friday Night Fights best knockouts of the year.

Andrade was widely considered by many boxing insiders to be the top amateur prospect to come out of the 2008 Olympics, and so far through his first six fights he has done more than just live up to the hype.

Andrade last saw action on August 1st at the Mohegan Sun on the undercard of Star Boxing’s IBF Welterweight Championship event. While Andrade had a large contingent of hometown supporters at the Mohegan Sun (Providence is about an hour car ride away), the hot jr. middleweight prospect says there is nothing like actually fighting in his home state.

“I can’t wait to get in that ring Friday Night,” stated Andrade. “There is nothing like fighting in your own home state and having all your family, fans and friends there to support you and cheer you on; it provides me with an opportunity to give something back to this state that I love.

“One of my dreams is to one day fight for a world championship right here in Providence. I want to encourage everyone to come out for the show Friday, I am going to put on another spectacular showing that I can assure you are not going to want to miss.”

The Demetrius Andrade vs. John Williams fight is promoted by Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing and Banner Promotions in association with Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment and Sports.
