European Boxing News: Jones, Brudov, Sosnowski, Vidoz, Kessler

WBA cruiser champ Guillermo Jones will finally defend the title he won almost a year ago in Germany with a TKO over Firat Arslan. Jones will take on Russian Valery Brudov on October 24 in Cannet Cote d´Azur, France, with AMI Production promoting.

Matchroom Promotions in the UK will stage the fight for the vacant European heavyweight title between Albert Sosnowski and Paolo Vidoz at a date to be announced. The parties, Matchroom and OPI 2000, came to an agreement before purse bids were held.

Arena Box Promotion have fighters in action on both sides of the Atlantic on September 18. In Castellon, Spain, heavies Steffen Kretschmann and Konstantin Airich, as well middleweight Mahir Oral, return after losses last time out.

In Miami, the same night, Cuban super bantam Guillermo Rigondeaux faces Giovanni Andrade, a very experienced opponent for a 2-0 pro.

WBA super middle champ Mikkel Kessler will have Ricard Olsen as chief cornerman on Saturday in Herning when he take on Gusmyl Perdomo. Olsen has trained Mikkel for his entire career, but for the training camp in Berlin for this fight Kessler has had Jimmy Montoya as trainer. As a cutman, Mikkel uses as always “Irish” Paddy Byrne.

Babilon Promotions are not the biggest on the Polish scene but they are certainly the busiest. On their show in Jozefow on September 20, cruisers Krzysztof Glowacki and Lukasz Rusiewicz headline in a scheduled six-rounder.

Spanish flyweight veteran Rafael Lozano continues to plug away and faces Brazilian Reginaldo Martins Carvalho on September 25 in Cordoba.

Junior light prospect Romain Jacob, from the famous fighting Jacob family, has his first fight of the new season on October 9 in Calais.

Universum Box Promotion stages an open day in their famous gym at Waldoerfer street in Hamburg on September 20. Both Universum and Spotlight Boxing fighters and trainers will be in attendance and it´s all a part of Universum´s 25th anniversary.

Two Hungarian fighters fighting in Hungary but with a Slovakian title at stak e? Yes, that´s what took place on September 4 in Bekes when middleweight Zoltan Surman won a technical decision over Gabor Balogh with the Slovakian International title at stake. It´s possible since both men are licensed in Slovakia.

K2 East brings big heavyweight Alexander Ustinov to Los Angeles on September 26 and a spot on the undercard to Klitschko vs Arreola. Ustinov faces Cedric Boswell in what will be an interesting test for Ustinov.
