With Marquez Victory, Mayweather Reclaims Boxing Pay-Per-View Throne

Floyd Mayweather’s highly anticipated comeback fight against Juan Manuel Marquez on Saturday, Sept. 19 was seen in over one million homes on HBO Pay-Per-View.

Mayweather, who returned to boxing after a 21-month layoff, delivered a masterful performance against the number two pound-for-pound fighter in the world, Juan Manuel Marquez, reminding those ringside and watching from home that he still is the best in the world.

“I am truly humbled by the numbers, and I appreciate all of the sports fans who either came to the fight or bought it on pay-per-view,” said Mayweather. “It felt great to be back in the ring and next time I will be even better.”

“These pay-per-view figures show exactly what Floyd brings to the table when he steps into the ring,” said Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions. “The fans wanted to see Floyd’s return to the sport and an incredible number of them tuned in to see him. He put on a special performance.”

Mayweather began his record breaking run in 2007 with his mega-fight against Oscar de la Hoya. In his last three bouts, Mayweather has delivered a record shattering total of nearly 4.4 million pay-per-view homes and over $300 million in combined revenue.

Mayweather’s display of power, speed, intelligence and phenomenal defense against Marquez proved that he still is the best in the sport and the star looks toward potential mega-fights on the horizon.
