Thanongsak Simsri Stops Mark Vicelles in Two: Full Fuji Boxing Results

Thanongsak Simsri kept hold of his IBF light flyweight title in a hurry, stopping Mark Vicelles in the second round at FujisanMesse in Fuji, Japan, on Saturday. The longer fight came underneath: Pete Apolinar stopped Shunpei Ohata in round nine of their super featherweight co-main event, after a weigh-in miss had left the vacant regional title at stake for Apolinar alone.

Main Event: Simsri Stops Vicelles in Two

Thanongsak Simsri (41-1-0) retained his IBF world light flyweight title with a second-round technical knockout of Mark Vicelles (21-3-1). Scheduled for 12 rounds, the contest was over in two.

It is another short night for Simsri after his second-round stoppage in his previous title defence. Ahead of this fight, he had spoken about bigger ambitions in the division, while stressing that he could not look past Vicelles. The result lets him turn back towards those plans; for Vicelles, a first world-title opportunity ended before he could take the champion into the later rounds.

Co-Main Event: Apolinar Stops Ohata in Nine

Pete Apolinar (21-7-1) stopped Shunpei Ohata (8-2-0) by technical knockout in the ninth round of their scheduled ten-round super featherweight bout. Ohata had failed to make weight, so the vacant WBO Asia Pacific super featherweight title was at stake only for Apolinar.

Apolinar had gone into the contest with considerably more professional fights behind him, but he still had to get past the home fighter. He did it late, handing Ohata his second defeat and leaving with both the win and the title opportunity that remained open to him.

Undercard

Chihiro Iwashita (11-1-1) wasted little time against Rusen Zheng (7-8-0), winning their featherweight bout by first-round technical knockout.

In a result that went the distance, Ren Harada (2-0-0) beat Shan Wu (8-8-0) by unanimous decision over eight rounds at super flyweight. Harada had entered with just one professional fight to Wu’s 15, making this a sizeable early test on paper.

Shoki Nakamura (4-2-0) stopped Wachirawit Sanpakorn (7-14-1) by technical knockout in round two of their super flyweight contest.

Kento Shinoda defeated debutant Yuki Higashi by majority decision after four rounds at super featherweight.

Another debut ended inside the distance as Isami Ozaki stopped fellow newcomer Sky Tampol by technical knockout in the second round of their scheduled four-round super lightweight fight.

Tomohiro Tsuruta (2-2-0) closed out the listed results with a first-round technical knockout of Yusuke Nawa (2-7-0) at bantamweight.
