Floyd Schofield beats Lucas Bahdi in a fight with knockdowns on both sides
Floyd Schofield kept his unbeaten record and took the vacant WBA lightweight title, but Lucas Bahdi made him work for it. Both men hit the canvas, and the scorecards were wide in places and much closer on another. The co-main had an even bigger shock: Sergio Mendoza dropped Ricardo Sandoval three times before stopping him.
Main Event: Floyd Schofield vs Lucas Bahdi
Floyd Schofield (20-0-0) beat Lucas Bahdi (20-1-0) by unanimous decision after 12 rounds. Bahdi went down in the third, but Schofield also hit the canvas in the eleventh. It was no straightforward points win for the new champion.
The judges had it 116-110, 119-108 and 115-111 for Schofield. That last card gives a sense of how differently the fight could look from one seat to another. Schofield leaves with the title and his zero intact; Bahdi leaves with his first defeat after making the champion earn it.
