Boxing In Canada: Undercard Of Pascal vs. Diaconu Rematch Announced

Montreal and its surround cities thirstily await December 11 when what should be a packed Bell Centre crowd will witness the much talked about rematch between WBC Light Heavyweight champion Jean Pascal (24-1-0, 16KO), and # 4 rated WBC challenger Adrian Diaconu (26-1-0 15 KO).

This gala will also mark the long awaited return to the ring of former WBC Super Middleweight champion Éric Lucas (38-7-3, 14KO), who is scheduled to shake the ring rust off against Ramon Pedro Moyano (27-8-3, 15KO) from Argentina.

InterBox and GYM are proud to announce the rest of the card, as follows:

When David Lemieux (19-0 19KO), turned pro at 18 years old, many compared him to hockey phenom Sydney Crosby from the Pittsburgh Penguins in terms of talent and future impact in his sport.

After literally demolishing all opponents placed in front to him, his new challenge is to acquire his first important tile, the prestigious WBC Youth Intercontinental championship, reserved for athletes 23 years of age or younger.

The opponent standing in his way of capturing this middleweight title is Delray “The Rainmaker” Raines (17-6-0, 12KO) from the USA . This 23 year old has already shared a ring with world class athletes such as Joe Green (21-0-0, 14KO), Aaron Davis (27-1-1, 21KO) for the NABO title, and Tarvis Simms (25-1-1, 11KO), who he limited to a decision. Raines has disputed 10 and 12 round bouts, but Lemieux has never gone more than 5!!!

After disputing four fights in 2008, Renan St-Juste (20-1-1, 13KO) has found himself outside the ring looking in since March 2009, when he disputed his only bout of this year.

Hampered by recurring injuries and opponent withdrawals, he finally gets to dispute an important minor title unification bout at middleweight against renowned Argentinean Francisco Antonio Mora (55-14-0, 35 KO).

Mora has faced some of the best boxers in the world such as current world champion Sergio Martinez, who he went the full 10 rounds with, current WBO champion Jurgen Brahmer, and Vitali Tsypko, who fought Librado Andrade in Montreal last April 4th 2009.

A victory over Mora will strengthen Renan’s position atop the top 10 in the world ratings and may even set up a dream bout against GYM promoted Sébastien Demers in early 2010, who he called out at Sebastien’s last fight on November 7th 2009.

Benoit Gaudet (20-2-0, 7KO) of Drummondville is set to make his return to the ring for the first time since impressing almost everybody but himself in a 9th round TKO loss against highly regarded WBC champion Humberto Soto.

Benoit’s bout was the semi final to the Pacquiao/Hatton bout that took place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. After a flash knockdown, Gaudet got up and fought very smartly until he was caught by Soto in the 9th round.

One judge at ringside had Benoit up at the time of the stoppage. Now, Gaudet returns against Jorge Banos from Montreal and is looking for another significant bout in 2010.

A real street-fight is anticipated between undefeated Canadian champion Manolis Plaitis and Benyamine Besmi, who only has one loss on his record!

2006 Canadian Olympic champion Eric Martle Bahoeli is also scheduled to box on the card, and to proudly represent Quebec City in a bout against Alston Brown from Vancouver.
