Dalton Smith Edges Alberto Puello by Split Decision to Retain WBC Title
Dalton Smith kept hold of his WBC world super-lightweight title, but there was little comfort in the way it came. Alberto Puello made him work for every inch in a close, tactical fight that went all 12 rounds and was hard to score. Giorgio Visioli also had to settle for a majority decision, while Shannon Ryan’s rematch with Emma Dolan ended abruptly.
Main Event
Dalton Smith (20-0-0) retained the WBC World Super Light title with a split-decision win over Alberto Puello (25-2-0) after 12 rounds.
This was a chess match, and a tricky one to score. The rounds were close enough that it always felt like the result could swing either way; Smith got the decision, but Puello made him earn it right to the final bell. Smith stays unbeaten and keeps the belt. Puello leaves with another loss, but this was no walkover for the champion.
Co-Main Event
Giorgio Visioli (12-0-0) took the vacant WBC International Silver Light title with a majority-decision victory over Maxi Hughes (29-10-2) after 10 rounds. Visioli remains unbeaten, though the majority verdict shows Hughes made him work for it.
Other Title Fight
Shannon Ryan (12-1-0) stopped Emma Dolan (9-2-0) by TKO in round one to win the BBBofC British, Commonwealth Boxing Council and IBF Inter-Continental super-flyweight titles. Dolan was dropped twice before the stoppage. Ryan made a statement in a rematch that barely had time to settle.
Undercard
Edward Hardy (9-0-0) stayed unbeaten, outpointing Diego Alberto Ruiz (28-16-1) over eight rounds.
Joe Hayden (25-0-0) also kept his unbeaten record, earning a points win over Will Harrison (8-2-2) after eight rounds.
Heavyweight Leo Atang (9-0-0) needed only one round to stop Jonathan Exequiel Vergara (9-5-0). Vergara went down three times before the referee waved it off.
Chris Mulunda (5-0-0) won on points over six rounds against Harley Collison (3-9-2).
Divine Omojor (debut → debut) got his professional career underway with a second-round TKO of Goran Kozul (8-12-0).
Smith keeps the title after a night of close decisions and quick finishes. Ryan’s first-round stoppage was the sharpest statement on the undercard.
