Boxing In France: Moreno Stops Patrac For WBA Bantam Belt

Local man Frederic Patrac earned a WBA bantamweight title shot last night on the strength of 12 straight victories but could not overcome reigning champion Anselmo Moreno at Palais Des Sports in Adge, France.

Former European titlist Patrac started strong, rushing the Panamanian based champ but the 31 year old Frenchman could not covert his aggression into success.

Southpaw Moreno, who had not lost in seven years, used his long experience to nullify Patrac’s efforts and simply waited for the challenger to wear down.

That occurred during the middle rounds as Moreno came off the defensive in savage fashion, backing Patrac up behind a two-fisted approach that left the tiring local hero with nowhere to hide.

By the 11th frame, Moreno was in fine form and Patrac could no longer adequately defend himself, forcing a stoppage at 2:56 of the round.

Moreno retains the WBA crown for the fifth time since winning the title from Wladimir Sidorenko in 2008. The 24 year old from San Miguelito, Panama sees his record to 28-1-1 (10).

Patrac drops to 26-8-1 (13).
