Last night at Agua Caliente Casino in Rancho Mirage, CA, WBO light welter champion Timothy Bradley hammered out another gritty title defense by outpointing Lamont Peterson by unanimous decision.
Bradley imposed his strength advantage early on, pushing the less experienced challenger back and downing Peterson in the third round.
But Peterson easily beat the count and began to turn the tide of the contest to his favor during the middle rounds, aggressively pushing back the champion.
Peterson’s rally was short lived however as Bradley began to counter effectively and take away some of the challenger’s confidence.
Bradley was the fresher man down the stretch as he pulled away during the championship rounds to produce a 120-107, 119-108 and 118-110 unanimous decision that was far closer than scored.
The Palm Springs resident now stands at 25-0 (11), winning his fourth world title bout with Peterson dropping to 27-1 (13) after engaging in his first.
Heading up the undercard was WBC super flyweight champ Vic Darchinyan, 33-2-1 (27), who took out challenger Tomas Rojas, 32-12-1 (22), at 2:54 of the second round.
