Ringside Boxing Report: Jean Pascal vs. Adrian Diaconu II

It’s unanimous, Jean Pascal defeated Adrian Diaconu to retain the WBC title on Friday at the Bell Centre in Montreal.

Pascal, 27, was facing Diaconu, 30, in a rematch bout for the WBC light-heavyweight title. The fight hinged on Pascal using his lightning quick hands to land repeated combinations, yet in between those salvos, Diaconu was able to consistently score with strong jabs.

To make matters worst, Pascal separated his right shoulder in the third round. According to Russ Anber, Pascal’s cutman, he had to pop the boxer’s shoulder back into place three times during the fight.

In extreme pain, Pascal still came out punching through the course of the fight.

It was a demonstration of courage and determination that gave Jean Pascal a well deserved victory against Adrian Diaconu. All three judges scored the bout in favour of Pascal, 118-110, 117-111 and 117-111, who retains his World Boxing Council light-heavyweight title.

Pascal is scheduled to fight Chad Dawson (29-0) within the next 120 days in a mandatory title defence. However, promoter Yvon Michel told the media that considering the state of Pascal’s shoulder, no title defence will take place until Pascal is back at 100 percent.
