It was war last night at Unidad Deportiva Inalambrica in Merida, Mexico as Jorge Solis and Likar Ramos went at it for the Interim WBA super feather title.
Colombia’s Ramos came into the ring as reigning Interim champ, having outpointed Angel Granados in Medellin for the title last November and the 24 year old was riding an 11 bout win streak.
Mexico’s Solis had only previously lost to Manny Pacquiao and most recently to Cristobal Cruz in an IBF featherweight title clash but at age 30, was giving away the youth advantage to his adversary.
Ramos came out of the gate strong and had Solis down in the third, but the Guadalajara veteran roared back to wrest control of the bout from the Colombian.
Solis scored heavily in the sixth as he dropped Ramos before finishing him off in the seventh with a crushing left hook to the body at 2:59 of the round.
Solis captures the Interim WBA super feather title and improves to 38-2-2 (28) while Ramos drops to 21-3 (15).
