Boxing promoter Dr. Mario Yacobi of Boxing 360 scored his second heavyweight win in as many weeks. Last week, veteran Maurice Harris scored a six round decision over Billy Zumbrun in New Mexico.
This weekend, New York City’s Emad Ali made it five of five with a unanimous six-round decision over Chris Green in an undercard bout at the Chumash Casino at Santa Ynez, California.
Ali, a member of Egyptian Olympic boxing team that defected to the United States on October 1, 2007 to pursue his boxing career, is being trained by former European cruiserweight contender Simon Bakinde of Camaroon.
Ali, now 5-0 (3), used strong jabs, a good straight right hand, and left hooks to win every round. Green, now 7-5-1 (5), from Denver, Colorado, fought a survival type fight.
According to trainer Bakinde, “We are now looking for a sparring partner on the same level as Ali to gain technique and experience.” Ali sparred with heavyweight Shawn McClean, who took out 38-0 Faruq Saleem last September, in preparation for Green.
Scoring was 60-54, 59-55, 59-55 for Ali.
Maurice Harris, now 21-14-2 (10), was known as an abused fighter who suffered from poor management in the past, including allegedly being forced to compete in fights he had not trained for and reportedly under false names, included a bout declared a no-contest by the North Carolina Athletic Commission in November of 2007 against Rodney Wallace.
Harris has come a long way in overcoming personal problems and troubles with the law of recent, and is in the process of putting his life back together. He won for the first time since winning a decision over Franklin Edmundson, in January 2006. Fighting at Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, he won by scores of 60-54, 60-54 and 58-56.
According to Yacobi, boxers Ali, Harris, David Estrada and Angel Hernandez from his stable of fighters will be scheduled to appear on the undercard of the Arthur Abraham vs. Andre Dirrell Super Six bout and the Vic Darchinyan vs. Rodrigo Guerrero WBC/WBA Super Flyweight unification bout, at Aqua Caliente Casino in Rancho Mirage, California, on March 6.
