TKO Boxing: Cherry vs. Herrera Feb 19 In Tampa

Former world title challenger Edner Cherry is a man on a mission and continues on his path towards another world title opportunity on Friday, February 19th in the main event of “Triple Header In Tampa” at the Ala Carte Event Pavilion.

Cherry squares off against Columbian banger Hevinson Herrera in the headline bout of an evening of world class professional boxing presented by TKO Boxing Promotions, Fight Night Productions and Ker’s WingHouse.

“I certainly feel like this is my year to become a world champion. Now that I’m fighting at junior lightweight I feel much stronger and very confident. Ideally, I’d like to fight a top five contender after this fight and then one of the belt holders at 130, but the important thing is to take care of business on the 19th” said the 27 year old native of Nassau, Bahamas.

The battle against Herrera will be Cherry’s first in Tampa since his sixth round knockout of Wes Ferguson in June of 2007. “Fighting in Tampa is great, I’m truly blessed to have the tremendous support of the fans here.”

The 27 year old Cherry returned to action on December 17th with a brutal third round stoppage of Jovann Jones at the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles. Using an array of thunderous body shots, the Wauchula, Florida resident dropped Jones three times on his way to the victory, improving his record to 25-6-2 (13KO’s).

In September 2008, Cherry lost a very hard fought twelve round decision to welterweight world champion Timothy Bradley.

Herrera, 14-4-1 (9KO’s), will be making his first start in the United States having previously battled numerous world class fighters in Panama, South Africa and France. He is on a three bout winning streak as he enters his initial bout of 2010.

The Cherry/Herrera eight round bout headlines an action packed card that also includes numerous local fighters and outstanding prospects including Jamaican heavyweight Lenroy Thomas, highly regarded welterweight newcomer Joseph Elegele, sensational super bantamweight prospect Robert Rodriguez, female junior featherweight fan favorite Jenna Shriver, undefeated middleweight Ahsandi Gibbs and junior middleweight Ali Tareh.

Tickets, starting at $20, can be purchased through Ticketmaster (www.ticketmaster.com). The Ala Carte Event Pavilion is located at 4050 Dana Shores Drive . Doors on the evening of the event will open at 7pm, with the first bell at 8pm.
