Mike Jones Decisions Tough Challenger Bruseles

Saturday night at Bally’s Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey unbeaten Philadelphia boxer Mike Jones brought his record to 20-0 (16) retaining the NABA Welterweight Title with a 10 round decision over tough challenger Henry ‘El Nitro’ Bruseles, of Puerto Rico. The card was promoted by Top Rank in association with Peltz Boxing Promotions.

Bruseles, now 28-4-1 (15) a winner of seven consecutive bouts since losing to Floyd Mayweather in a WBC eliminator in 2005, gave away reach and height to Jones, who peppered him with jab combinations all night. Bruseles hung tough and with eight of his previous bouts that went the distance, wasn’t going anywhere.

He won the first, third and fifth rounds by landing outside shots, and some pretty good counter shots to the head and body. Jones landed many big right hands to win at least seven, maybe eight of the ten rounds. Jones, ranked eight by the WBA and eleventh by IBF, stated “I like going 10 rounds with competition. Bruseles is a veteran. I’m not disappointed.”
