Boxing Result: Keisher “Fire” Mcleod-Wells Defeats Laura Gomez In Style

Keisher “Fire”Mcleod-Wells (3-1) dominated her over matched opponent Laura Gomez (3-1) on a DiBella Entertainment boxing show Wednesday night at BB King’s Blues club and grill on 42nd street in Times Square, NY on a night which showcased local talent.

Gomez, who hails from Sonora Mexico, entered the ring with an undefeated ledger of 3-0. “Fire”, coming off a tough disputed decision loss to Laura Ledezma in Ledezma’s home country of Panama last July, used her reach and ring generalship to frustrate the

tough, come-forward slugging style of Gomez.

Fire started the first round by feeling out her opponent and worked well behind her long left jab. As the round progressed, she also started to find a home for her right hand.

Gomez, being three inches shorter than Mcleod-Wellls, realized it was going to be a long night if she stayed at the end of Fire’s jab, so she started to force the fight coming forward and letting her hands go with large looping punches.

This worked in favor of Mcloed-Wells as she was able to display the type of maturity that normally comes from a fighter with much more experience. Mcleod-Wells was able to move out of trouble and counter the aggressive Gomez.

In round two, Mcloed-Wells was starting to lead with her right hand against the southpaw Gomez and then took her attack to the body of the Mexican. Gomez was clearly frustrated that Mcleod-Wells would not stay and trade with her and started to march forward recklessly trying to land one big shot.

Round three started like round two, finishing with Gomez trying to out-muscle Mcleod-Wells, yet on the few occasions that Gomez did get inside she would come off worse as Mcleod-Wells was digging to the body and head. Once the referee broke the fighters, Mcleod-Wells would go back to her jab-right hand combination that Gomez had no answer for.

Round four was Mcleod-Wells’ best round. A stoppage victory was on the cards but instead of getting caught up in the crowd’s desire for a knockout, Fire used her head and boxed smart landing her right hand at will to the head and body.

Keisher “Fire” Mcleod-Wells came out the unanimous winner with a shut out on all cards.
