Hatton Boxing: Prospect Quigg To Headline Fight Card In Bury May 29

Bury Council have lifted their ban on professional boxing and will allow Hatton Promotions to stage talent stacked shows in the town.

Their decision means that fast emerging super-bantamweight sensation Scott Quigg can box in his hometown. Hatton Promotions will stage their first Bury show on Saturday May 29.

Quigg, 21, is unbeaten in 17 professional contests and will top the exciting night of professional boxing at Castle Leisure Centre.

Hatton Promotions CEO Gareth Williams is from the area and led the campaign to bring boxing back to the market town. He explained: “I went to school in Bury and live in Greenmount.

“There is a tremendous interest in sport locally and I am glad the boxing ban has finally been lifted. We have been promoting boxing all over the country and I have been telling Ricky for some time that Bury would be a great venue.

“In the last 12 months under Hatton Promotions Scott has made great strides and I could think of nobody better to bring boxing back to Bury.

Two weight world champion Ricky Hatton added: “Gareth is from Bury and he has told me we should do a show in Bury. Scott has really impressed me with his attitude and ability and I have no doubt he can go all the way.”

Quigg who is lined up to box for the European title later this year said: “It is fantastic that the council have overturned the ban and I am so grateful to them. I have a lot of fans and I will get even more now that I can box professionally in Bury.”

Boxing was initially banned in Bury in 1997, but with Hatton Promotions and Quigg teaming up there are plenty of big fight nights looming.
