Boxing In Russia: Kotlobay vs. Maccarinelli For European Title

Tuesday sees a big fight card at Yubileiny Sports Palace in Saint Petersburg featuring three title bouts.

It will be a battle of big punchers at cruiserweight as prospect Alexander Kotlobay, 18-1-1 (12), goes for the vacant European crown against former WBO champion Enzo Maccarinelli, 31-4 (24).

This will be a big step up for local man Kotlobay, who hasn’t been in with the same level of opposition as has his Welsh opponent.

All of Maccarinelli’s losses have been by stoppage and no doubt Kotlobay will be looking for one big punch to end matters but he’ll have to be very careful about what is coming back in return.

The IBF International light heavyweight title will be up for grabs as prospect Dmitry Sukhotsky, 14-1 (9), coming off a failed bid at the WBO crown against Juergen Braehmer in December, faces ex-super middleweight world title challenger Pablo Daniel Zamora Nievas, 24-7-1 (15), for the vacant strap.

This contest should confirm if Sukhotsky is headed for bigger and better things if he can get by gatekeeper Nievas.

Sherali Mamadaliev, 10-0 (6), puts his PABA and WBO European welterweight titles at risk against Belgian lightweight Herve De Luca, 15-4-1 (7).

Look for Mamadaliev to stop the undersized De Luca within the distance.
