UBO Boxing: Ouma vs. Holmes For Middleweight Belt In DC

Keith Holmes (41-5, 25 KOs) will get his hands full on May 29 at the DC Armory in Washington D.C., as Titanium Promotions has confirmed that the former WBC champion will take on former IBF champion Kassim “The Dream” Ouma (26-7-1, 16 KOs).

The two will clash for the vacant UBO International Middleweight championship as co-feature to the Demarcus Corley vs. Jermain White UBO Light Welterweight title fight.

Ouma, a native of Uganda residing in the USA for the last twelve years, made his professional debut in 1998. He beat a long line of quality opponents such as Alex Bunema, Kuvanych Toygonbayev, Tony Marshall, former WBO champion Verno Phillips, Jason Papillion, Angel Hernandez and Carlos Bojorquez on his way to a world title eliminator against Juan Carlos Candelo in January 2004.

Ouma beat Candelo in impressive fashion to line up an October rematch with former foe Verno Phillips, who had become a two time world champion by winning the IBF crown in June. Ouma and Phillips fought at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, with the challenger taking the world title on a close but unanimous decision.

Ouma made one successful defence of the world title before loosing it against tricky Russian Roman Karmazin in 2005. He bounced back with four impressive victories, one of them over the undefeated Sechew Powel, before challenging Jermain Taylor for the WBC and WBO middleweight titles in 2006. The southpaw African did well against the much bigger Taylor, but lost on points.

In his latest fight, this past January, many ringsiders felt “The Dream” was unjustly denied victory against Vanes “Nightmare” Martirosian (26-0, 17 KOs). Ouma knocked the Armenian-born contender down in the ninth round, and looked like he was on his way to a solid victory.

But the judges didn’t see it like that and the fight against Holmes on May 29 is not only about becoming a champion again for Ouma, it is also about redemption. He wants to prove he is still world class!
