Former WBO cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli’s massive one punch power gained the Welshman the European title in Saint Petersburg, Russia on Tuesday.
Maccarinelli, 32-4 (24), needed less than a minute to stamp out the aspirations of local hero Alexander Kotlobay, 18-2-1 (12), and capture the Continental crown via first round stoppage.
It was a night of fireworks at Yubileiny Sports Palace as there were two additional first round knockouts in title bouts.
Light heavyweight Dmitry Sukhotsky, 15-1 (10), finished off veteran Pablo Daniel Zamora Nieves, 24-8-1 (15), to annex the vacant IBF International strap while welterweight Sherali Mamadaliev, 11-0 (6), made short work of Belgian lightweight Herve De Luca, 15-5-1 (7), for the PABA and WBO European welter belts.
