Golden Boy Boxing: Navarro Added To July 22 Fight Night Club Lineup

ByBoxing Press 26/06/2010

Back on the road to a world title shot, bantamweight contender Jose Navarro will headline the next edition of Golden Boy Promotions’ “Fight Night Club” in his hometown of Los Angeles on Thursday, July 22 at L.A. Live’s Club Nokia in a six round fight.

The co-featured bout on the hit monthly boxing series will be what promises to be a bantamweight war between Montebello’s Nestor Rocha and San Diego’s Benji Garcia in a six round battle.

Opening up the telecast, Jamie Kavanagh will make his second appearance on “Fight Night Club” against an opponent to be determined in a four round fight. Also in action will be unbeaten East Los Angeles junior welterweight prospect Ramon Valadez against Los Angeles’s Oscar Andrade and Van Nuy’s Jesus Rodriguez taking on LA’s Luis Martinez.

A member of the 2000 United States Olympic team, East Los Angeles southpaw Jose Navarro (27-5, 12 KO’s) has come close to winning a world title several times over the course of his nine year career, but believes that now is the time when he will finally strap gold around his waist.

In May, Navarro fought in LA for the first time since 2004, decisioning Benji Garcia at Club Nokia, and he’s eager to get back to the “Fight Night Club” in July in order to keep his momentum going against an opponent to be determined in a six round fight.

In his first fight since a challenge for the WBC Bantamweight Title last July, 27-year-old Nestor Rocha (21-2, 7 KO’s) looks to get back to the form that saw him win four of his last five bouts while sailing to the top of the bantamweight rankings.

Standing in his way will be granite-chinned Benji Garcia (14-15-3, 1 KO), the type of fighter no one wants to see on fight night, leading fans to believe that a Fight of the Year-quality match is on tap this July.

Jamie “The Nuisance” Kavanagh (2-0, 1 KO), who originally hails from Ireland, but now makes his home in Los Angeles is looking to add another win to his clean pro record. Under the guidance of the great Freddie Roach, the top prospect is ready to make “Fight Night Club” his home away from home with his second appearance in a row.

Fan favorite Ramon Valadez (1-0) of East Los Angeles will return to “Fight Night Club” against fellow unbeaten AngelinoOscar Andrade (1-0, 1 KO) in a four round junior welterweight battle.

Also in action will be a battle of Southern California junior lightweights,Van Nuys’ Jesus Rodriguez (2-0) and Los Angeles’ Luis Martinez (2-3-1) in a four round bout. Opening up the card will be two amateur fights.
