Hatton Boxing: Aussie Vows To Shock Murray For Commonwealth Crown

Peter Mitrevski Jnr is confident of shocking Martin Murray after being whipped into shape by Anthony Mundine.

The Aussie (23-6-1) challenges the St Helens’ man (19-0) for the vacant Commonwealth middleweight title at Bolton Arena on Friday July 16.

Mitrevski Jnr, 30, has spent the last two months locked away in Sydney sparring with Australia’s number one fighter, Mundine Jnr.

Mitrevski Jnr said: “My training has been going exceptionally well. I’ve had plenty of sparring with Anthony Mundine Jnr so I am well prepared.

“I have no problems going to England and I just wish the football season was on because I want to see a Premier League game live.

“If I win this and impress I am sure Hatton Promotions will want me back again and I can persuade Ricky Hatton to take me to a Manchester City match although I doubt he’ll be my friend if I beat his fighter.”

Mitrevski Jnr has only fought once outside Australia, back in December 2006 when he ventured to Germany and was stopped in eight rounds by current IBF world champion, Sebastian Sylvester.

He added: “I have watched lots of Murray’s fights and he is a very skilful fighter with a good jab and he goes well to the body.

“However, he is untested and has never been more than eight rounds. I am going to take him into deep water and see whether he sinks or swims.”

In the world class top of the bill battle Hyde’s Matthew Hatton (39-4-2) risks his European welterweight crown against Ukraine’s Yuri Nuzhnenko (30-1-1).

Bury box office star Scott Quigg (18-0) meets tough Gavin Reid (6-6-1) for the vacant English super-bantamweight title.

Commonwealth light-middleweight champion Craig Watson (17-3) steps back down to welterweight to face a selected opponent in a ten rounder.

The star studded undercard includes several top Hatton Promotions prospects including Anthony Crolla (17-2), Matty Askin (6-0), Craig Lyon (10-0), Rhys Roberts (9-0), Jez Wilson (6-1) and Navid Iran (1-0).
