O“Neil Bell: The Uncrowned Champion Awaits Coronation.

ByKatrina Walters 19/05/200519/05/2005

If you ask the average fight fan to name a boxer in the cruiserweight division, more than likely they will name a heavyweight, or even a light heavyweight. But in a division not as popular as those of the heavyweights and light heavyweights, you have a fighter that is on the verge of making the cruiserweight division as recognizable as a twenty-dollar bill. For O’Neil “Give “em Hell” Bell, the opportunity could not come any sooner. The Lithonia, Georgia native has been fighting professionally for seven years and now awaits the opportunity to become the IBF cruiserweight champion May 20, at the Hard Rock Casino, in Hollywood Florida. While training out of the Atlanta Art of Boxing Gym in Atlanta, Georgia, I asked Bell about his preparations for this fight. O’Neil stated, “I’ve been training for two months in preparation for this fight. I had numerous sparring partners, with seventy to eighty rounds of sparring, I’m ready and focused.” And focus is definitely the order for O’Neil Bell.

With three opportunities for a shot at stardom falling through for Bell in the past, the top ranked cruiserweight is not about to let this moment pass him by without taking full advantage, “I want the crown, I want the notoriety, and I want the fame.” And as focused and ready as Bell appears, it is going be hard to stop him from reaching the ultimate goal, which is to become IBF cruiserweight champion of the world.

Bell went on, “I strive to achieve perfection, and if I don’t get it on the first try, I dust off and try again, I just keep trying.” As for motivation, Bell reiterates, “I try to be the best at what I do, and that’s with everything.” Focus is a key part of being successful and O’Neil Bell holds the keys to success. Not only is he focused and determined, but ready, willing and able, and in closing, he has a message for the cruiserweight division, “I’m stronger and faster than all of them out there!”

With the extensive training that Bell has undergone, and the confidence that he exudes, coupled with the hunger and thirst for recognition as a fighter and for his weight class which has eluded him as well as the cruiserweight division for some time now, at the end of the night on May 20, in Hollywood Fl, we may witness the long awaited crowning of O’Neil “Give “em Hell” Bell, the uncrowned champion!

SaddoBoxing would like to thank O’Neil Bell for taking time to speak with us hours before this very important fight. Thank you to also Ouie for making the interview possible! Stay posted to SaddoBoxing for the immediate post fight exclusive interview from O’Neil Bell.

The clash between Spence and Tszyu had reportedly been lined up to take place in June. Tim did suffer a cut in his bout against Nurja, which could potentially delay proceedings.
